I love SO much of what Pope Francis says in the article linked below, and it reminded me immediately of Pres. Uchtdorf’s talk about creating so many rules that we lose sight of the Gospel.

Book marked this one. Love it.

    My favorite quotes are

    Quote:

And ideology does not beckon [people]. In ideologies there is not Jesus: in his tenderness, his love, his meekness. And ideologies are rigid, always. Of every sign: rigid.

    ,

    Quote:

“And when a Christian becomes a disciple of the ideology, he has lost the faith: he is no longer a disciple of Jesus, he is a disciple of this attitude of thought

    Quote:

But it is a serious illness, this of ideological Christians. It is an illness, but it is not new, eh?”

I did too. A friend of mine is an ultra-conservative Catholic. When he first heard this pope speak he wasn’t sure what to think. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this, Ray. I have several Catholic friends. Some of them simply don’t know how to react – they expected a very conservative pope because he’s from South America. Others are like “It’s about time.” I agree with you that Pope Francis and Pres. Uchtdorf are kindred spirits and like thinkers.

    Ray,

What specifically do you hear from Pres. Uchtdorf which reminds you of the Pope’s words? Just wondering if there is a specific talk you have in mind…

    Thanks!

I think Pres. Urchtdorf, Pope Francis and the 14th Dalia Lama are perhaps the three greatest prophets of our time.

Robert Kirby would be a close 4th.

I have been reading some Chieko Okazaki and she has to right up there too.

I loved the entire article. Thank you for posting that Ray. I don’t get out in the bloggernacle much and love to have links of good stuff.

I just figured out who Robert Kirby is…ha ha ha. He does speak truth. I could have done without the 74 minutes of church I attended yesterday.

Cate, Ive been traveling and unable to check in for the past couple of days. Once I catch up I will try to find a link to the talk from Pres. Uchtdorf that came to mind when I read the speech by Pope Francis.
