GuestAs I’ve said elsewhere, it will be interesting to see how, if at all, the Church publicizes this change. While the manual in the LDS Gospel Library app has been changed, YW tend to use hard copies of the manual (even as tech-savvy as they are) because you need a physical copy to get your value experiences signed off. The YW President in my ward probably does not read the Salt Lake Tribune, and I am positive she does not read this site or FMH or any of the other places where this is being discussed. So likely she has no idea. If the Church is serious about this change, they need to print all new manuals, or issue a letter to be read over the pulpit, or have stake YW leaders contact the ward level leadership, or SOMETHING. Time will tell. After reading about this change I had my 13 year old daughter bring me her hard copy Personal Progress manual so I could cross out this verse. Rather to my dismay she had already completed this value experience. So I instructed her that whatever conclusions she has drawn about “the promised blessings of being sexually clean and pure” based on Moroni 9:9, she should go ahead and forget those conclusions. She was like “yeah okay mom” and went back to watching Disney Channel on Netflix. But: my daughter has overheard a LOT of conversations between me and her father about why that verse is problematic. She’s a lot more feminist than I was at 13. She’s probably already drawn the conclusion that using victims of rape/murder/cannibalism to illustrate the importance of voluntary chastity was a
really bad idea. So the verse is still in the Book of Mormon, and it’s still a problematic verse, but it’s a little easier to frame it in the context of the Book of Mormon being a record of a
terriblysexist society. I can work with that. September 28, 2016 at 5:55 pm #315056Anonymous
GuestI hear you Joni. No this won’t get an announcement or anything like that, but we can be the bearers of good news. I know everyone isn’t comfortable with the Trib but if you carried a copy of the news from another source, you could share it and help “Scatter Sunshine” all along the way. Try this one.

GuestYeah, the BOM people suck. They are pretty universally terrible. The good guys are mostly insufferable self-righteous jerks, and the bad guys put Hannibal Lector to shame. September 28, 2016 at 10:55 pm #315058Anonymous

Is this the “bear your testimony of the BOM” thread?
