GuestJan 6 Fast Sunday. I heard a testimony about a family taking a boat ride to an island off the coast of California. On the way out they didn’t see any dolphins or marine life so they prayed about it. Coming back they saw over 30 dolphins so they know the Lord answers prayers. This was from a 13 year old boy. Very small and very petty of me to bring it up but it is another straw on the “camel’s back”. I am sure he was lauded for his “faith”. Is it OK to encourage this type of thinking or am I completely missing it? January 20, 2013 at 6:29 pm #263741Anonymous
GuestFrom a 13-year-old boy? I’m fine with it, since I know nothing about that boy. From an adult? I hope not.

GuestA few months back we had a kid bare his testimony of prayer because he had got a nerf gun for his birthday! Maybe we should be getting these kids to pray for world peace. There must be something we adults are missing

By the way, I can’t resist smiling at kipper commenting on a sea-life story. Do they only call them kippers in UK:

GuestOn the subject of children being taught to pray… I liked hearing about this Buddhist V-Star Change the World event of ‘one million’ children meditating. The meditation was not designed to ask god to bring world peace, but to ask god and meditate on how they could bring it.

GuestI would say on one level that is fine, on another level, teach how since you prayed to see more dolphins, you need to do your part and look carefully for them. January 20, 2013 at 6:58 pm #263745Anonymous

One part of me says the same…just a child feeling good about his faith. Then the other part of me asks is it OK to teach young people that your prayers were answered because you asked for dolphins? 13 years old is pretty close to someone who should have an understanding of meaningful prayer. Maybe it was the Lords way of confirming prayers are answered? Like stepping stones? I guess I am more like an investigator than an active adult with callings and am easily stunned.

This seems fine to me as a stage of faith – stage 2-3 in fowlers?
I also hope that the deeper message that he internalizes is that the God of Heaven knows him and cares for him. Those messages may serve him well even if the “prosper in the land” formula breaks down later on.

That depends. Are you exposing it or presenting it?

Or even grin and bear it?
