GuestI looks like we’ve made it through most of Hurricane Irma, although . In a different topic, it was mentioned how many members of the Church, and those belonging to other faiths, see it as a harbinger of the end of the world. I wanted to pose the question, how do you think it is all going to go down?fires are still raging in the North WestRight now, I’m thinking cyber attack. We saw back in 2010 what
could do. It’s pretty crazy to think that a computer worm could be so beautifully and intricately designed, to anonymously put a huge dent in Iran’s nuclear program. That, combined with a few clever assasinations really set their program behind, and could’ve prevented WW3. But we did see another “anonymous” attack on several big financial institutions. It’s interesting how all the “Powers that Be” fully deny responsibility. Wikileaks confirmed the offenders as a collaberation between the US, Britian, and Israel. And guess who order the retaliation strikes?StuxnetThen there was the creation of the Nitro Zeus project, which Obama was keeping in his back pocket in case peace talks with Iran didn’t go well (another leak). In theory, it could completely disable Iran’s entire infastructure; water purification, transportation, communications, the internet, electricity… If we got hit with anything close to that, it’d spell the end of the United States. What’d be worse, is if someone could gain control of the nukes or drones. Just this past year, the US government has gone through a major “cyber security” recruiting campaign, in effect paying for college for anyone willing to commit several years. I almost signed up myself.
Side note: Guess who has the best cyber security in the entire world? North Korea.
What are your thoughts? How do you think the world is going to end?

GuestIn about 4 billion years the earth will literally burn when the sun turns into a red super giant and envelopes the earth. That will be about the same time that the Andromeda galaxy runs into the Milky Way. I don’t think the human race will become completely extinct until then – although it’s a distinct possibility given who we have running several of the world’s most powerful countries. I do think that it’s likely there will be a world war that kills a vast number of people within the next 100 years. But to keep the conversation interesting, if we do manage to kill ourselves off I think it will be artificial intelligence / robots. Grey goo.

GuestNo I don’t think the world is going to end anytime soon. But I can see Trump leading us into a war, whether we want to or not.

In 4 billion years, whatever life there is on earth, even if it is our “posterity”, wouldn’t be identifiable as “human”.
As for the “end of the world”, I more or less meant a major reformation in which the aftermath is hardly identifiable from what came before it. The Bronze Age Collapse is a good example. The obliteration of the Native Americans is another. The collapse of Western Society as we know it would qualify. Even when the LDS Church speaks of the “End of the World”, there’s a millennium proceeding it, where life carries on, albiet in a completely different way than before. And then a thousand years after that, the world really does end for realzies. Not saying that will happen verbatem, but we’re due for an “end of the world as we know it”, here in the next few centuries for sure.
