I knew it before the transition. Now that the ride as begun, I am certain President Nelson and I will not get along.

    From the Press Conference

To a local fireside on the Book of Mormon

To My Relief Society lesson this past Sunday on his talk about the Book of Mormon.

And now a fireside about Satan –

It’s official. I am not going to make it.

He may be 93 in birth years. But he is agile, alive, and has a young, strong minded wife. He isn’t going anywhere soon. Ugggg.

Seeing as how I’d love to smack him upside the head… he might be on to something. ;)

Yep, this is exactly what concerned me. Just terrible.

    From the SLTribune article:

    Quote:

“These appetites are absolutely essential for the perpetuation of life. So, what does the adversary do?” Nelson asked. “He attacks us through our appetites. He tempts us to eat things we should not eat, to drink things we should not drink, and to love as we should not love.”

Discovering one’s divine purpose also reveals to the faithful seeker “one of the most important things you need to learn in life … to know who you really are,” he added. Part of that search should include plumbing the depths of family history …

Point #1 – How does the adversary work that he is trying to get me to eat cheesecake so I’m overweight??? I shouldn’t eat it…dang…that darn devil!

In all seriousness…how are they teaching the “adversary” works in this life? He’s a literal being? Working inside us? Please…splain it to me.

Point #2 – As I learn who I am and my purpose…I learn that family history is not even on my radar.

    Nelson. Same old same old.

Sorry to hear your frustrations. Maybe it is a good reminder lesson for us to not put our faith in the arm of flesh…since…the mortals at the top running things bug us?????

It’s a good point. On a personal note, I can and do separate so much of their words. On a larger religion and tribal note, it breaks my heart. We need unity and healing.

    This ain’t gonna be it.

Everyone else will use him as the Iron Rod. I just can’t.

    Call me Laman.

    You’re not Laman. You’re smart.

I get the feeling the Pope is doing more to “unify” humanity than our prophet seems to be. I’m trying to withhold judgment and just observe…but I like the Pope’s approach.

    1) The world is such a good place these days that Satan can’t tempt people to hate anymore, he has to tempt them to love as they should not love.

    2) Satan is finally coming around. He’s given up spreading hate but he’s still got a hint of evil about him, he’ll get people to love… as they should not love.

    3) Satan needs to up his game if getting people to eat Doritos, drink Red Bull, and not be an @$$#0|3 to people that are different than you is the best lure he’s got for millennials.

That reminds me of an excerpt from the Book of Lemuel. Please tell me I’m not the only one that has seen it. This is one of the entries:

    Quote:

    Dear Diary,

Hi I’m Lemuel, and I’m retarded.

    Dear Diary,

I didn’t write that last entry. Laman must have gotten a hold of the plates; sometimes he’s really a jerk. I wish there was a way to erase engravings. Maybe a jeweler could fix it.

You’re not. Isn’t it prequel to the blue book?

I have read it. It’s humor I get.

I look at the Trib every day, but somehow this escaped me. After reading here I almost didn’t read the article, but I did. Usually I thank you for sharing things, Mom. No offense, but no thanks. Like Curt said, this is what I was afraid of. I agree with you, I’m going to struggle as I have not since ETB, and from the git go it’s looking worse than Benson. Is “love as we should not love” insinuating that Satan causes people to be gay or that being gay is a choice or both? And this he said to Millennials?

This has compounded to become a few fairly bad days for me. I had the talk Sunday where the Nelson’s BoM talk was the main reference. (I quoted a generic paragraph, but I did end up reading the thing at least 3 times looking for something to use.) Last night we had stake council, and in retrospect I’m thinking the stake Primary president had read something of this talk because she went on for a couple minutes about how confused youth are about sexuality, but she seemed to blame it on the media although Satan was mentioned. And now this.

I think all of us are old enough to remember Flip Wilson’s Geraldine. “The devil made me do it!”

In my mind he can overturn 3 decades of softening. As you mentioned it has ETB echoes in it. Even worse, President Monson was so quiet, reserved, and aged that his message was easy to overlook. Not Nelson. He is loving this. So is his wife. They are heading out on a massive world tour. I assume it will be the 2 note message of BoM and “Don’t sin in the areas we don’t want you to.”

At every turn I am just sick. I held out hope that maybe he wouldn’t head this direction. It was a false hope.

There is one good thing about the quote, in my mind. It Is easy to overlook, since it is subtle, but I like it, nonetheless:

I have never heard an LDS President even imply that non-heterosexual relationships can be and are based on love.

I feel something similar, or maybe a little different source of the same emotion, I’m not sure…..but I’m tired…having a little trouble keep trying for hope of the ship turning slowly but just wondering if I’m just getting seasick while the ship carries on. False hopes. It wears on me over time.

Maybe I tune out this prophet for a while. I don’t know.

    I miss Hinckley.

I suspended hope for a while. For a few presidents worth of time methinks.

If it does come down to JRH I think the juxtaposition with the Russell “Conditional Love” Nelson and DHO presidencies really will make him come across as a rockstar among the orthodox.

Well – let’s just go ahead an make me conflicted.

One day I refuse to give him any attention. Three days later – Maybe he and I share something.

“I know your hearts are heavy as is mine as we contemplate those ruthless killings in Florida this last week. I think of Alaina Petty, 14-year-old Latter-day Saint, her life snuffed out by that sniper’s bullet…. you and others to say, ‘how could God allow things like that to happen?’ Well, God allows us to have our agency, and men have passed laws that allow guns to go to people who shouldn’t have them.”

My take, if he and I have lunch, we can only discuss gun control. And whether he wants ketchup or fry sauce with his jojo’s.
