GuestBefore the recent press and increase in traffic, it wasn’t too hard or complicated to keep up with all the conversations on the forums. We all got to things when we had time. I would like to propose that we divide up the forums and volunteer to act in a role I am calling “Primary Moderator.” Primary Moderators make sure to first check those forum sections where they volunteer for this role. We should all still act as moderators anywhere we see a problem, but if we can’t get to it all (which is certainly the case for me lately), then at least we try to devote our time to keeping up with the conversations in our Primary Moderator forum sections.
Active moderation of StayLDS forums is going to continue to be a high priority. The quality of the content on the site is what will drive its success for the many many lurkers who visit. We always have to keep in mind the large number of people that come here but never post.
First off, anyone opposed to this idea or does it need modifications?
Second, who wants to volunteer for which sections? I will go later and let others pick first.

GuestWell, I think it’s a good idea. In other forums I’ve been on they take a similar approach. I’m game for whatever. I’ll take Book Reviews and General Discussion unless someone prefers something else (those seemed like the easiest)

GuestI am getting to work early and staying a little late to try to read everything, but I will tackle the History and Doctrine section as my primary focus. August 4, 2009 at 6:35 pm #220753Anonymous
GuestValoel – Introductions is probably our biggest risk area, so maybe we should have extra mods there. Support also seems risky, but I’m happy to co-mod both of those with someone, such as yourself . . . I would also suggest we get AdamF and Mormon Heretic to help out. MoHer would be good to help in History & Doctrine, too. AdamF for Support & Introductions. That still leaves Spiritual Stuff, which is a piece of cake, and I can handle that. So long as there are co-mods on the other two that is . . .
Also, I think we should be willing to step in to help each other out as needed. My travel schedule can get a little hectic from time to time.

GuestI don’t know how consistently reliable I can be, I’ll try to help out where I can. If you want to give any suggestions I’ll be sure to check those areas first. August 5, 2009 at 1:59 am #220755Anonymous
GuestYou can only take Support orIntroductions Hawkgrrrl I don’t want you to feel like you are taking too much on, and you already do a lot working over at Mormon Matters (which is also an important project).
So pick one, and I will take the other. You can take Spiritual Stuff, and I will take on the Rules and Policies section. How does that sound?
I am ok with jmb taking General and Book Reviews. Book Reviews doesn’t get a ton of traffic.
When we get a couple more moderators, we can all settle with just one section. And like others mentioned, we can cover for each other when one of us is offline for a period of time.
Everyone who is a moderator can still moderate anywhere when they have time to help out. The section assignments are just the minimum commitment — to read those and pay attention.

GuestI sent a PM to Mormon Heretic today, asking if he would like to co-Primary on the History and Doctrine section with Ray (and be a general moderator too). I also sent a PM to Prairie_Chuck at FacesEast through their system to see if she was interested Mod’ing.
