I just wrote a post about a documentary on interpretations of “Gay” scriptures. I’m curious what others think about it? See http://www.mormonheretic.org/2012/12/26/re-evaluating-gay-scriptures/

I really liked the article for a number of reasons. The article addresses a very current topic, but its discussion can be applied to many different issues of concern for folks trying to StayLDS.

I love the dialogue from West Wing with its example Bible dogmatism gone amuck.

    Quote:

[Sheen says] “I like your show. I like how you call homosexuality an abomination.”

[woman responds] “I don’t say homosexuality is an abomination Mr. President. The Bible does.”

    [Sheen] Yes, it does. Leviticus.”

    [woman] “18:22″

[Sheen] “Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here. I’m interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She’s a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be?

While thinking about that, can I ask another? My chief of staff insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or is it ok to call the police?”

Desmond Tutu was quoted as saying,

    Quote:

“We have very perversely used difference to justify cruelty of the most vicious sort. I equate homophobia to the injustice of apartheid and that’s so contrary to the heart of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

While we consider the sinfulness (or not) of homosexuality, we must be careful of the far greater sin of homophobia.

I am so glad the Church is backing away from its position that homosexuality in orientation is sinful and should be treated. IMO its new web site ( http://www.mormonsandgays.org/ ) is a positive step forward to building bridges rather than walls.

http://www.mormondialogue.org (Mormon Dialogue Discussion Board). It used to be the apologetics’ board and expanded.

Some people on here aren’t fond of it. I appreciate it as another place to ‘explore my faith.’ There are some very aggressive, defensive posters, but also some balanced considered ones.

I know, the post that got you kicked out was bang on and well worth taking the fall over. The conversation continues (can you even read a thread you’ve been blocked from?)

nope. Once you are banned from a thread, you cannot even read it. They often remove all your posts from the thread as well. And, as it turns out, the rules for getting kicked out are…purely by the discretion of the ‘leaders’ of the site.

I know you like the site, but I find it maddening. literally. One has to stoop to the insanity in order to participate, and that is very time consuming and wasteful.
