GuestDande48 posted about a “non-profit site” called “Recovery from Religion”. He said it has helped him a lot. I am sure it has, but it also is explicitly an anti-religion site – with specific articles addressing leaving the LDS Church. I am not comfortable with it here, since I beleive it violates our prohibition on linking to anti-Mormon sites. I removed the link and locked it, so we can discuss it behind the scenes.
If anyone wants to look at it, Google “recovering from religion” – or go to that name .org.

GuestI saw the post but didn’t have a lot of time then to really look at the site. Now that I’ve had a bit more time, I agree – it seems counter to our mission/purpose. I’m actually not a huge fan of Dande lately so my opinion is admittedly biased. January 12, 2019 at 7:29 am #333771Anonymous
GuestDande is going through his dark-side phase. His may last a while. Because I am a lurker fanatic – I don’t think it fits out mission. LDS faith crisis is burden enough. I vote it off the island.

GuestThe quote he isolated from the site Quote:Some of these folks ended up abandoning their faith, others re-defined it, and some are still in process. Our goal is not to talk anyone into or out of faith, but to provide a safe space to examine what we believe. And perhaps, why we believe it.
is fine and all but it doesn’t appear to be in alignment with the actual mission of the site. Content aside, the site is called recovering from religion. Ithas an anti-religion bias.

GuestThanks for the input, everyone. It seemed pretty straightforward to me, but I wanted input. January 14, 2019 at 4:04 pm #333774Anonymous
GuestSure. I support the action. January 14, 2019 at 4:30 pm #333775Anonymous
GuestJust thinking a little about the phrase recovering from religion. It certainly implies that religion is some kind of spell that one should wake up from. I am thinking of religion as both a way of life and a developmental stage. I find it interesting to describe retirement and “recovery from employment” or turning 20 as “recovery from teenager years”. 😆 January 15, 2019 at 3:04 am #333776Anonymous
GuestI haven’t checked it out. If they assume everyone needs to recover from it…that would be immature. If we are focusing on supporting those who want to stay, and they are supporting those who want to “recover” … I don’t see much difference, just different camps, but can still offer support and open discourse. But that doesn’t mean it should be promoted here. It wouldn’t fit and would be confusing.
Dande has been pretty negative, but usually maintains respect.
In the end, does it go against our mission? Yes. I think so.
