When I was a deacon 30+ years ago my bishop required that all the words be said exactly right and no merging of words (like thathey). My bishop when I was a priest asked that if we messed up a word that we repeat the line. I find myself only asking the priests to repeat the prayer if they make a mistake big enough to change the meaning of the prayer (like substituting bread for water).

That being said, I also think it’s ok for priests to learn that some things they have to be careful with, although like others have said, the time to teach this is during lesson time. The 10 minutes of the sacrament is one the most important part of the 3 hours, why not take the time to get the prayers right. I also find myself giving more slack to new priests than those with some experience, not sure if that’s fair or not but they should know better than to rush through it full of mistakes.

Be careful which version you use, D&C vs BoM are NOT the same (more than just the “wine” thing) Our BP Counselor found out the hard way last month. He was using the BofM, and the Priest was using the D&C version which is what is printed on the card you get from SLC.

D&C: and keep his commandments which he has given them…….

BofM and keep his commandments which he hath given them……

Has vs Hath. The Bishop was out of town, and the counselor told the poor priest 2 times to do it over. On the 3rd time he stood up and walked over to the priest, and pointed to the word. The look on his face was priceless when he realized the priest was right, and he was wrong!

That is a great example of where lots of Bishops tightly would ignore the discrepancy and let it pass, even if they were right.
