GuestIn defense of the Manifesto wording, there is a HUGE difference between people being in jail and having all assists confiscated. The first can be seen as standing up for one’s beliefs and conscience; the second (jail AND loss of all property and assets) means complete annihilation of the leadership structure and the organization. Also, I appreciate the candor and honesty, frankly.
Just saying.

They won’t do military service, jury service or anything like that and describe states as “beasts” (the bear and the eagle on Russia’s case).
I have been meeting with some JW’s semi regularly for some months. One interesting realization for me is the internally consistent nature of their beliefs (meaning that one does not need to be foolish to believe in it). IF you accept the bible as the nearly infallible word of God AND you accept certain bible verses at face value tied together with a little JW interpretation mixed in THEN it all makes perfect sense.
They seem to believe in forsaking nearly all earthly allegiances in favor of heavenly ones. Mortal governments are symptoms of a fallen world. Why work within the fallen/broken system to make this fallen world better when its days are numbered anyway? Better to strive to gain citizenship in the heavenly kingdom and let the earthly world take its course. After all one cannot serve God and Mammon.
In this vein it would seem to be unfaithful to God to vote or run for office (literally doubting faith that God will swoop in and fix everything as promised in His Word). One exception to that seems to be in the area of taxation. After all, Jesus said to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s.
And yes, since they seem to view Satan as the god of this world, any worldly persecution would seem to just confirm for them that they are on the right path.
