I’m in the bishopric in my ward and recently interviewed a sister for a temple recommend. Like a number of the folks in this forum, I’ve stopped teaching and testifying of things I don’t really believe, and instead focus on the things that I do believe. Well, as I started interviewing this sister, she told me that she wanted thank me. She said she’d been going through a faith adjustment of her own, and could tell from the context of my talks and testimonies that she and I were on the same page on a lot of issues. She said it was refreshing and helped keep her in the Church to know that a Liahona could find a niche and serve in a bishopric in the ward. Made me feel pretty good, and re-affirmed for me that it’s worth me staying in my calling.
Related to this idea you’ve raised is this – if all of us Liahona-types step into the shadows, or leave the Church, or purposelly disengage, then we cede the ground we’ve occupied to the TBM’ers. Personally, I can’t think of a worse thing than to have the Church staffed and led exclusively by TBM’ers. Christ called the faithful the leaven that raises the whole loaf. I think that’s true not just of society as a whole but of the Church itself – the Church needs people like you and me on the high councils, in the bishoprics, etc.

GuestIts ironic that their reaction to your talk was exactly what your talk was about. They are like the Pharisees, trying to strain a gnat and swallowing a camel. Keep up the good work brother. I hope to be as brave of a defender of truth as you are someday soon. -
