When did we officially move from Christ’s/God’s doctrine to the Church’s doctrine?
:eh: I suppose this is a step in the right direction – considering that before this update same sex relationships could not be documented. I thought the Q & A about whether or not Family Search was the first to provide this functionality was interesting. “No. Family search was not the first…” This exchange made we wonder if it was one of the last to provide the functionality.

I actually like this. I would look less kindly on it if it said “Consistent with Christ’s eternal standards” or “in accordance with God’s revealed law” or some such rhetoric.
I do wonder. We as a church seal many people who may not have wanted a Mormon sealing for personal religious and principle reasons or those that may not want to be tied that particular spouse. Our policy is essentially to do the work and let God, Free agency, and the holy spirit of promise sort it out. How hard might it be to include same sex relationships in that less than sure understanding of what the afterlife will look like?

This happened in my family. My great grandfather walked out on his wife and 3 daughters. Never came back. Did visit the girls in the orphanage they were sent to. He had another wife. She had a lot of money.
My grandmother had Mormon family members and she stated again and again, that after she died she didn’t want to be sealed to him.
Someone, a distance cousin, didn’t the get the memo and low and behold – she did the sealing work for them. She got a crap full of push back from the direct living posterity. But it was too late.
There is another type of issue, I have a relative (an orphan) who was legally adopted by (2) sisters. The sisters never married. As a result, any sealings to the sisters & their families stops. When I ask the question why can’t they be sealed, the answer is:
it will be taken care of in the millenium. (We really don’t have all the answers.)
I love it – as a huge step in the right direction. I believe we have more to do in this area, but this, at the very least, is an important movement that literally recognizes such relationships as important to genealogy. In Mormon terms, that is a very good thing.
