GuestI am liking this part about judgementalism and self righteousness. “We must not be guilty of persecuting…” – a needed message. April 1, 2017 at 5:06 pm #319583Anonymous
Guest“The repentant sinner draws closer to God than the self-righteous who condemn him.” This talk is addressed to judgmental, self-righteous members. (and that can include us, if we are not careful)
We can’t persecute ANYONE inside or outside the Church. YES!!

Guest“How ironically sad it would be if we were to treat others as we have been treated.” Yes, it would be. 🙄 April 1, 2017 at 5:08 pm #319585Anonymous
GuestAmen. “The Guiding Principle for Latter Day Saints is the same.” That is heavy. April 1, 2017 at 5:08 pm #319586Anonymous
Guest“For us to ask for respect, we must be respectful.” April 1, 2017 at 5:09 pm #319587Anonymous
Guest“We must guard against bigotry.” Seriously love the central message of this talk.
“He does not withhold love from us regardless of sin.”

Guestydeve – you get that pain more than we do. Maybe it’s my hopeful heart, but I keep hoping Elder Renlund is working to be a voice of change in the top leadership. That’s the hope I keep hoping. April 1, 2017 at 5:10 pm #319589Anonymous
GuestHatred is too strong of a word. Most bigots don’t consider themselves bigots. They don’t think they hate people. But the bigotry is still there and has the same effect. “Discomfort” is a better indicator that we should be checking what we say and do. April 1, 2017 at 5:11 pm #319590Anonymous
GuestA small bump hear the beginning, but overall very good. Not a home run, but very good. April 1, 2017 at 5:12 pm #319591Anonymous
GuestNot a home run, but it was a 2 base hit. And a public push back to the more right leaning side, IMO. April 1, 2017 at 5:12 pm #319592Anonymous
GuestAnother lovely accent. April 1, 2017 at 5:14 pm #319593Anonymous
Guestydeve, I understand – but, given what I know of Elder Renlund, I believe he also understands. Often, general messages must be given before specific correction can be given – and I really do see Elder Renlund as someone who is like Pres. Uchtdorf in his vision for where the Church needs to go. I like that he used the word “bigotry” in his talk. I don’t think it’s a common one in the GC word cloud. But isn’t it too simple to just say that, “God is clear” about everything? No acknowledgement that human beings are the transmitters of this supposed clarity.

GuestQuote:“God is clear” about everything? No acknowledgement that human beings are the transmitters of this supposed clarity.
I think this is where the talk kept bouncing off a couple of subjects and it didn’t settle well. Not bad. Just muddy.

GuestProbably, Ann – but I am not going to focus on that aspect when the message itself was so powerful and needed in the Church. This was a direct rebuke of the culture that bothers us so much and the judgmentalism that has hurt so many. I need to respect and honor that.
Compare it to Elder Soarres’ talk. That one is a true example of simplistic generalities.
