“screwloose” is a new user whose introduction mentions a “brain disease” that is terminal and involves special powers, like seeing angels. Later, it is identified as schizophrenia, and this person is taking medication to be okay.

We need to be careful with this person. This sort of thing is a fine line, and we have to be very careful of not moving into the realm of therapy and clinical diagnosis OR of dismissal and argument.

I know that is obvious, but we need to have it in writing in our archives.

Thank you Curt. I agree for now. If his contribution changes then our response will also need to change.

agree. thanks for documenting it and helping to keep an eye on it.

I reiterated the need to read and be familiar with the rules and etiquette and mission so we can hold him to it.

I read it and shied away from it. I will likely keep my distance. It’s too tricky for me over the ‘net.

I deal with that kind of stuff too much IRL, so much so that I need a break from it. I’ll be staying away.

We may consider moderation though, they started several threads about dreams, voices, visitations, etc.

I don’t know that we need a separate thread for each of their visions. Maybe keep it to one tread “My visions” and leave it at that.

Thanks, nibbler. I had the same thought.

I think there won’t be much commentary. I think people won’t know what to say. We will see how long it lasts.

Thanks, DJ, for the way you responded in the new post thread. I hope he takes the time to answer.

I sent him a PM explaining what I did with his multiple posts and why. I will let you know if he responds.

I merged two new visions treads screwloose created to the global viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9115” class=”bbcode_url”>viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9115 thread.

I don’t know how we can help this person and I don’t think having lots and lots of posts about these types of visions fits with the mission of the site.

Truth be told, it makes me uncomfortable. I wonder how it makes other posters and lurkers feel.

    We’re not mental health professionals.

I just came up here to say exactly what you said Nibbler. So what do we do?

It’s a bit uncomfortable or strange but if it helps that one person to have someone in their lives listen to them, and it isn’t creating havoc on the site, I say we allow it and let people minister to that person.

We have asked about professional help, but he isn’t open to that. He wants to keep having his visions and doesn’t see them as hallucinations. I can’t say one way or another, authoritatively, as long as he can stay functional and productive and not dangerous.

I say we keep merging them into the original thread and letting people reply or not, unless things change in the things he writes. We can’t help him clinically – or in any way other than providing a place to record his stuff. If that is enough, I am cool with it continuing. If not, we can deal with it then.

For the first time, today he seems to have begun responding to other posts. That’s certainly more in keeping with our mission, albeit his views tend to be very orthodox. That’s OK because obviously people don’t always agree with me either.

He doesn’t seem to be overly obsessive where he has arrived here and dominating threads or flooding the board with his own massive thoughts all over the place.

    His name seems fitting.

But it doesn’t appear to be damaging the community so far. Kind of harmless. IMO. Still monitoring for excessive posts or content.
