The temple classes were absolutely no help at all.
and that is a HUGE part of the problem. It is SO easy to fix that, but we’ve taken a few things that are not to be shared openly and turned it into not talking at all – which is pointless and not actually in line with the ceremony itself. All of my kids and everyone with whom I talk about it are prepared (as much as they can be), and I never cross any forbidden lines.
When my daughter was at BYU and engaged my wife and I attended a temple prep class with her. As the lesson progressed I chimed in with the part about a new name in the D&C and the instructor immediately told me that things like that were not to be discussed outside the temple. He then went to the section in the D&C that I was talking about. Go figure.
