GuestI am going to take a break for a while. He pushes everyone of my buttons. When I am this p.o.ed I am no use to the board. I will be back but after a hiatus. October 28, 2016 at 4:47 pm #315543Anonymous
GuestUnderstand. Thanks. But…I think it is important to have your voice…I would disagree you are of no use to the forum. Female voices on this board are so very much needed. Especially when stupid flippant comments are made. Not just female voices, but yours and your views as you’ve developed a strong reputation here. I learn from your posts.
Happy to cover the moderating while you take your break you need. Just know your input is awesome, and I respect you a lot. Your reactions seem pretty understandable to me.
We need you here.
Peace.

GuestWhat Heber said. Do what you have to do – but don’t feel like you aren’t a vital part of our conversations.
Sheldon has been a jerk ever since he started participating here.

GuestThanks Heber and Ray – I jumped on because LH sent me a virtual hug. I will wander back in when I can be measured and courteous. June 2, 2017 at 9:34 pm #315546Anonymous
GuestSheldon and DBMormon are the same person, Bill Reel. Correct? I don’t believe he is interested in being a Mod, as I haven’t seen him doing and moderation ever.
Just to clean it up…I moved him out of the Global Moderator group (green dudes and dudettes). I don’t see him needing access to the tools or mod pages.
Everyone OK with that? I can change it back if you think we should.
I don’t know if we need to PM him about it. I see him using both logins.

GuestNo, Sheldon = Bishop Bill (occasional guest poster at W&T). His real name is Danny Clark. Different dude. Sheldon engages with people whereas Bill Reel is a self-promoting drive by guy. June 3, 2017 at 12:22 pm #315548Anonymous
GuestI’m good with Bill not being a mod and I agree with Hawkgrrrl about his use of the forum. I had PMed Bill him a few months ago (due to a conversation here) about not just posting links to his podcasts/blog and not engaging. At that time I had suggested he remove himself as a mod because he wasn;t moderating at all. He did not respond. Interestingly I never though he and Sheldon were the same.

GuestGot it. Thanks for clarifying. I had my bishop bill’s confused. June 4, 2017 at 10:33 pm #315550Anonymous

We had been talking about removing DBMormon’s MOD status for over a year but we just did not want to send the wrong message since we had an issue with one of his posts back in 4/16. Now an appropriate length of time has elapsed that it should be clear that the two are not related.
Thanks for moving forward with that Heber.

GuestJust to repeat what Hawk said, Sheldon is not DBMormon. Different Bishop who uses “Bill” as his handle elsewhere. Good choice about removing DBMormon’s mod access.

GuestSo everyone knows, the original title of Sheldon’s post about Elder Hamula’s excommunication was “James Hamula, First Quorum of the Seventy, Can’t StayLDS”. Sheldon doesn’t comment here anymore, ever, unless it is to complain and cause discord. He intentionally framed the post as a direct shot at our mission, and he did so in a way that implied there were issues that would have caused Elder Hamula to participate here if he had been a regular member. It implied disaffection, apostasy, or a faith crisis do some kind. It put the blame for the excommunication on the Church and implied Elder Hamula chose to leave (that he couldn’t find a way to stay).
I understand Sheldon well enough to see what he intended. His comments in the thread show he is trying to make it a combative thread – a chance to slam the Church in whatever way he can. He has been on the edge for a while, and I have no patience for this sort of subtle attack that most newer participants here won’t understand.
Having said that, please let me know if I overstepped and over-reacted.

GuestI don’t think you did. He loves a good bait when he can get it. My patience for him is long overdue and leading a topic with that title was disrespectful to Brother Hamula. I applaud your swift response.

GuestI don’t think his comment was that big a deal, mostly because the Sheldon name implies that like the character on Big Bang, he’s prone to accidentally offending people with his bluntness. I mostly like Danny. In any case, Hamula’s excommunication has been big news today. A woman in my ward that I’m good friends with knows him very well. He used to work in their family law firm for years. She suspects money stuff but has no actual knowledge of it–they parted ways several years back, but she always felt he was a bit arrogant, entitled, and shady in business. Someone else online said he was involved in the NZ Hamilton land stuff. It’s possible there was some sort of misdeed there. But who knows? Nobody has leaked anything yet.
Either way, like my friend I hope that he gets his crap together as a result and that his family weathers the storm well.

GuestI think you acted appropriately. He just needs to know he can’t get away with that sort of stuff whether or not he thinks it’s funny. August 9, 2017 at 9:32 pm #315556Anonymous
GuestI agree that you acted appropriately. I do not get the impression that Sheldon is overly hostile towards the church. I appreciated seeing how he worked with his daughter and SIL during their faith crisis. It helped to humanize him in my estimation. I agree that is one way to read the title. The other possible way to read it is that the church has taken away Elder Hamula’s ability to choose to stayLDS… IOW excommunication. At any rate, I believe that the change in title was appropriate.
