GuestGreetings All- I’ve lurked for a while, finally registered, didnt post and continued to lurk. Today i thought i would officially check in. This seems like a pretty safe place. Alot of intersting people with diverse stories on how they got here.
Im over 50, a convert of 20 years, married in the Temple after meeting my sweetheart in a singles ward. I was previosly divorced and not a member then.
Joining the Church was the best thing that happened to me. Ive been drinking the kool-aid for 19 years.
The past year has been tough. Made the mistake of reading the church history in detail. Im not going to delve real deep right now, i’ll save that for a later post. Just thought i would officially check in and say hi.
Yours in staying lds,
Ball of confusion (my friends call me Boc for short)

GuestWell-themed intro — the avatar, the username, and the brief intro all harmonize….yes, I find this a safe place although I have been known to put my foot in my mouth occasionally. But relationships come before any kind of one-uppance in my view — no matter where I post and whether it’s anonymous or not. There are real people with real feelings and real life experiences behind the text, and for me, it’s not much different than talking in real life, except I can be more open and honest here. Good people on this site — even better than the ones in my Ward or another more TBM forum I sometimes frequent, where the people are still drinking from the well of traditional Mormonism. I mean that very honestly and sincerely.
It sometimes makes me wonder if the traditional Mormons have it right, given the fact that “by their fruits you will know them”…is supposed to be one of hte hallmarks of leading us to truth. With traditional Mormons being good and the people here even “gooder” — I sometimes question whether the traditional way is the best according to the God-given criteria….but that is another story.
Welcome.

GuestThere are great things about the church… a sense of community, family & service oriented, beautiful messages. And there are some not-so-great things about the church… shame and fear, lies… & all that comes with that.
It’s like a relationship… when you first meet someone, it’s all cool… because you just scratched the surface.
Then a decade or 2 later of intimately knowing someone (ie a spouse)… you find out the good and bad in more detail.
This forum helps to sort through all of the good and bad of the church, so we can benefit from the good and deal with the bad.
Welcome, BOC.

GuestWelcome, BoC. I look forward to learning from your posts as we discuss some topics you have on your mind. You may have been doing it already as a lurker, but the search function is helpful to search topics previously discussed, and you can bump up those prior threads with adding your new ideas to topics.
Welcome.
