The minute I read this I thought of SD and his energetic work in the community. I thought everyone might like this. Thanks — it’s not too often I see my username in a the subject line of a post! I appreciated the article. I wish I could take “credit” for being so community minded — it has always been a part of my personal mission statement, and updated from being a strong contributor in “the church” to the “community” after my second traumatic experience in the church. but my latest involvement was spawned by the sense of ostracization I felt when I left my last calling. In a way, it’s been positive to be in the community now though…for reasons I’ve said in other posts.
The article makes a good point – we are so busy doing systemized service for ourselves (chapel cleaning, moving other people, being missionaries etcetera) there is little time for outside service.
