What direction do you all want to provide for this SDs desire to post chats about other things besides StayLDS mission directed topics? 1) Are we OK for general chat and non-LDS discussions in a forum?
2) Is General Discussion the right place?
3) Any kind of limits on topics that are OK or not OK?
Thoughts?
I threw in my slight dig in the thread where he asked about it. I love SD, but he’s posting well over half of the threads already. Open up a forum for him to post even more . . . I’m kidding with that. I think it’s a fine idea – as long as it doesn’t get contentious with political postings.
If we decide to do it, I would suggest a “Non-Religious” section – to keep the “General Discussion” section a bit “cleaner” with religious topics only. If we do it, I also would rename the “General Discussion” section to “General Religious Discussion” – just to make it really clear and distinct.
I think i’m OK with some level of non-religious, non-mission oriented chat in the General Discussion forum section. In my mind, that is where conversations go that don’t fit anywhere else. I’d rather not make more forum sections. I constantly deal with classification creep in my work. It tends to quickly cause more problems than it clarifies — mostly with users having too many options to choose from, leading to them putting stuff in the wrong places.
I agree, unless we find we need to, I’d prefer not starting a new section. OK. Let’s give it a go, and use the General Discussion forum. I will make a concerted effort to help moderate and monitor that section since I raised the issue…and if we’ll see if others respond with also wanting some kind of general talk…but for the most part, people keep to religious stuff, which is why they are there.
I think NOM does more of social chatting, and its ok. Different strokes.
We just need to make sure it doesn’t turn into a distraction. I don’t think it will.
