GuestI agree Ray and Mom, and I do it too. I’ve decided that I’m actually going to prepare a narrative for my meeting so that I make sure I say what I want to say about Pres. Wixom and Elder Nielson. But I’m talking to a maximum of of 16 other guys (counting the clerk and ES), some of whom have ears to hear but don’t hear even when I do directly quote these GAs. I said I already talked, via email, with my SP and he gets it – but he’s one guy, albeit an influential one. I’m not sure outside that room anything will come of it, and in actuality doubt anything will. April 7, 2015 at 12:08 am #297645Anonymous
GuestI have to admit that a bit of a traditional heavy conference breakfast started taking a toll on my consciousness during her talk, but I did catch enough to remember, “OK – this is one I need to re-listen too when I am not in a crepe-induced nap.” I am looking forward to re-listening to it (or maybe reading it). Not to be a downer, but I was really bummed about hearing Elder Cook say, “people leaving the church – not happening.” I can say out of the 8 people in our ward that are “gone” (left due to faith crisis) only 1 couple withdrew their names. Not sure if that is an average across the church or not. It would be very interesting to dissect and play with the numbers. What is the activity rate in South America, in North America, in Africa, in Europe, in Asia. I would love to get an excel spreadsheet just to sort and graph a bit.

Good idea. I often freeze in the moment and don’t make my case. I wonder what everyone would think if a Pres. Uchtdorf sound-alike read her talk. This whole thing, and conference re-caps in general, have me thinking a lot about style, gender, message vs. messenger, etc.LookingHard wrote:“OK – this is one I need to re-listen to when I am not in a crepe-induced nap.”

GuestI keep a notebook of specific quotes with me, so I have the exact words, dates when spoken etc. Even stuff like a quote from the Improvement Era from the Prophet about women assisting their husbands in giving healing blessings. It helps me if I need back up, but a lot of times I will just say, “Last Conference Elder said,…..” Or – “My favorite beatitude is….” I know it’s not earth shattering, but I think it opens thoughts. GuestToday was the first time I’ve heard Sis. Wixom’s talk referenced in Sacrament Meeting. So that’s good thing number one. But, even better, the speaker conveyed what I think was the core message and didn’t pare it down or tweak it to make some other point. September 21, 2015 at 5:20 pm #297649Anonymous

Wow – I am almost glad I wasn’t in that meeting because I probably would have jumped up and down cheering, hollering, and finally wrapped it up with the wave. That is monumental.
Uchtdorf’s Grace made it to Sacrament Meeting a couple of weeks ago. I was totally stunned. So shocked I almost couldn’t breathe.
