If you are worried about questioning the church further and then eventually Christianity as a whole I suggest you slam on the brakes and throw the care in reverse. More study of actual history both mormon and of the world is most likely to lead to one conclusion if you are not biased.

What exactly is the inevitable conclusion that everyone is supposed to arrive at if they start questioning things in an unbiased way? Is the answer supposed to be that Christianity is a completely fabricated myth and there is nothing supernatural either? I’m not saying that this isn’t a legitimate possibility but I just don’t believe for a second that anyone can really know this for sure. In reality this is simply a guess based on pure speculation, not any kind of undeniable evidence and logic.

When I look at Christians like CS Lewis, M. Scott Peck, and Francis Collins they don’t look particularly biased to me at all. In fact, based on my own experience so far it is the religion-hating atheists that look biased and cynical to me to assume not only that Jesus and Paul were liars, delusional, etc. or that Jesus didn’t even exist but also that religion supposedly does more harm than good and needs to be eradicated. If that’s what you honestly believe that’s your own personal opinion but I just don’t see any convincing reason for expecting others to agree with some of these assumptions.

No no no. There isn’t a single right answer, and there certainly isn’t one correct interpretation of Christianity and the existence (or lack) of God. There isn’t one path through doubt and/or faith.

Cadence can have his view too though.

I *do* agree it is common to at least question these things, to examine them from new perspectives, but the conclusions are not fixed. If it were really that simple, you’d think the whole world would have figured out Christianity in the past 100+ generations. I like to think I am smart … but I’m not THAT smart, even in my own delusions of grandeur. 😆

And to be perfectly clear, it is completely acceptable in our community to resolve our doubts and questions with a an acceptance of traditional faith.

You’ll never prove or disprove the existence of God, whether Jesus existed and/or atoned for sins, and whether JS had a vision or not. Up to now, assuming you were a believer, you just assumed it was true, never really questioning it. I agree with Cadence to some extent in that there’s nowhere to go but down from that high level of unquestioned belief. The only way to avoid error is to embrace your fallibility, keep your sense of humor, and act in faith while examining your assumptions. You will find that many of your assumptions are not founded, others are just irrelevant and unnecessary, and some are ones that you still cling to. That’s the process for us all, and I think it’s just part of growing up spiritually.
