In previous girls camps in my stake they made a big deal about long pants only and if a girls wears a two piece swim suit she would have to wear a tshirt over it. This year no such rules. They didnt make a big deal out of the changes, they just didn’t announce or enforce previous rules. They also did some pretty neat and physically demanding activities with these (not) delicate Young Women.

A small victory in the Arizona heat. Just wanted to share. :)

Those small victories are HUGE in the lives of our YW.

It sets the tone for what they will expect out of themselves in the future.

Little by little the ship turns. Slowly the water trickles down the rows.

Great!! I always wondered, too, about how they always seem to think it’s important for a priesthood holder to be there, for some reason. I can see it to give a blessing, if needed, but I’ve found women are perfectly capable of managing a girl’s camp. Margaret Thatcher ran a whole country :)

I agree with this. Sometimes for practical reasons it makes sense to have men there, but I think with careful planning a camp wouldn’t need any men at all. Our girls repelled down a 10 story cliff and it’s probably difficult to find 3+ women who are certified in repelling. Likewise our girls go fishing, shooting, canoeing, hiking, ziplining and so raw strength is sometimes helpful. Our stake isn’t progressive enough to go without men and I’m not sure but the handbook may require it.

Yay. I hope it’s a trend because this whole t-shirted swimming to spare the priesthood the sight of cute girls in bathing suits was getting creepy and contentious. There are women on both sides of the debate who can’t stop talking about it. Enough already.

I’m always glad to hear that camp is a physically-challenging experience. Instead of too many crafts, too much scripture-reading :silent: and wayyyyyy too much food. My daughters loved camp in general, but the overnight hike best of all. They came home beaming.

I would suggest making sure the whole yw stake presidency, ward yw presidency, bishopric, and even the stake presidency is aware of how glad you are of this change. all it takes is a few leaders to be changed and it will be right back. Tell them why this is good in your opinion – even if you do it anonymously.

Good idea! But, thank them after the camp! You don’t want somebody thinking it was just an oversight and then coming back and tightening up the dress code before you go to camp. 😆

You might be surprised how many women are certified to teach rappelling.

The assumption is always that “those don’t exist” so no one actually asks around.

DW was the RS president about 10 years ago and at the time they had to have a priesthood leader on hand for the RS activity meetings. I really do not understand the practice. Is he there to make sure RS doesn’t go off the rails teaching false doctrine or something?
