Hi there, I’ve been LDS all my life and still am LDS other than I am now inactive in the Church. The reason for my inactivity is because I see the Church slipping deeper and deeper into apostasy. I’m rather doubt that anybody here will be able to help, but it would be good to discuss what I see as changes in the Church in my life time that aren’t correct. I’ve thought about leaving the Church, but I do have a testimony of the restoration.

I’m post 50 now, my father was born in the early 1900’s, my grandfather was born in the 1870’s. That might sound a little strange to some people. It’s as if I’ve skipped a generation because I’m the last born in the family as well as my father. It did give me an advantage though because I was able to ask questions and find out things from dad. He was my link back in time to the early days of the family. The family joined the Church in Canada in 1838. I’ve read a number of diaries of the family. I’ve also studied Church history and have a pretty darn good understanding of the doctrines and teachings of the Church. I’m quite familiar with the standard works of the Church too. I’ve also studied Hebrew just a little bit which is a help in understanding the ancient scriptures.

At 600BC at the time of Ezekiel Jerusalem had lapsed into apostasy. You know the story of Lehi and his family. Laman and Lemuel said that they knew that the people of Jerusalem were a righteous people that they kept the commandments as contained in the Law of Moses. In other words they were saying that the people were righteous because they had a temple there. As you also know Jerusalem was destroyed. Before it was destroyed however about 3,000 or 4,000 were taken to Babylon. At the time of the attack only around 600 men survived out of many thousands. The reason they were spared is because they were the only righteous in the city at the time. They were the ones who mourned for the wickedness of the people. The Lord sent an angel and marked every one of them who were spared in their forehead. They were the only ones spared. I sit here today and wonder what the heck is going on with my Church. Something isn’t right and I mourn for the Church too. Here is a short list: Abortion, Idolatry, acceptance of Homosexuality, Lack of Spirit (gifts are gone such as healing), No revelation (that includes the so-called revelation about blacks, City Creek Mall (babylon), changed temple ordinances. These are things I want to discuss and see what you folks think. I see it as apostasy.

Welcome. I am sure people here will agree with some of what you believe and disagree with other parts. I know that is my reaction as I read your introduction. I hope you can accept that mix.

Frankly, if you are basing your issues off of Old Testament standards, you are going to find little agreement here – even in cases where there is agreement about the overall topic. We aren’t scriptural literalists, generally, and we don’t support rigid adherence to Old Testament laws and attitudes, especially.

As an admin, I want to reiterate right up front that this thread will be locked if it turns into a discussion about homosexuality, especially. Everyone, please ignore that part of the introduction and keep this thread focused on the general introduction. We have multiple threads addressing that topic in one way or another, so, if you want to discuss it, read one of those threads and comment there. If your response is to argue that the Church needs to reject homosexuality completely and go back to any kind of Old Testament view of it, this is not the place for you. You need to know that upfront and honestly.

Okay – I’ll take that discussion off the table but I will remind you that the scriptures do not support your view. I won’t say any more about it.

Thanks and I hope you still keep me around.
