GuestI started this posting earlier & deleted it. Here goes. I’ve been thinking a lot about “change” & the different forms it comes in. I saw a movie yesterday. It is one of my favourites for many reasons. It is called: “The Town”. (Don’t get caught up in the action scenes alone.)
The final scene summed up the whole purpose of the movie. Ben Affleck has written his girlfriend a note. In it he explains his life & says,
Quote:No matter how much you change you still have to pay the price for the things you’ve done. So I’ve got a long road. But I know I’ll see you again, this side or the other.
— The Town (2010).
Change can come in different forms.
A. A community can change.
B. A church or religion can change.
C. Individuals can change.
Every week, when I repent & take the sacrament, I should be changing a little bit. I hope I am.
There are some events in my life that continue to haunt me. Nothing big like murder, etc.
There are portions of my life where I was not very pleasant to be around.
It seems like there should be more that I should be paying before I can expect to be forgiven.
When we talk about the history of the Church, Joseph Smith, WoW, tithing, and my spiritual challenges, seem so
insignificant to me. (I can see how these issues are important to others.)
What really matters, am I changing for the better & does God forgive me?
Everything else is insignificant.
Just a thought. I hope it makes sense.
Happy Mother’s day, you’all!

GuestNarnia series and Lord of the Rings have gospel themes. I do remember loving Sixth Sense. It was just before my gay son came out with his ‘secret’. He could so relate to this movie and feeling rejected for something he had no control over. Bruce Almighty, It’s a Wonderful Life, Chariots of Fire, The da Vinci Code, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Soul Surfer, just some others. Bridget

GuestA movie with striking parallels to my own life as a practicing non-believer: “The Village”. May 14, 2012 at 2:02 pm #244251Anonymous
GuestI find Solaris very moving (the Russian original, not the Soderbergh remake.) There’s one dreadful scene when they’re driving in a car, which is not so good, and the film is fairly slowly, but when it works it’s very powerful. There’s no dialog in this bit by ther way, but in this bit we see the main character returning to his childhood home. The music also has to be some of the most beautiful ever heard on this Earth.
