GuestI’m looking for for your opinions on about deleting the StayLDS.com Facebook group. I set this up a long time ago to lock in the name in response to the cybersquatter who sites on the StayLDS.org who are loosely related to the Utah Lighthouse Ministry (I believe). We’ve never had any real activity in the Facebook group and it only attracts the occasional hacked FB account to spam advertising. Anyone feel strongly about keeping this alive? I would rather just delete it at this point, one less thing to manage.

GuestI didn’t even know that was a thing. You might ask the same question in the FB group. So it’s a public group instead of a closed group. That alone may curb discussion.
It may still be useful to point people here.

GuestI also did not know about it. I am open to closing it if that is what you would prefer. December 19, 2016 at 7:43 pm #316407Anonymous
GuestI also didn’t know it existed and don’t care one way or the other. I suppose as a means of directing people here it might have some value. December 21, 2016 at 5:01 pm #316408Anonymous
GuestThanks for the feedback. Ray, you are an admin in the group along with myself and John Dehlin (one of his accounts). I just thought of a better idea. Since it isn’t ever used for anything productive, let’s just keep it as a placeholder and an advertisement.
In order to make it simple to administer, I will just ignore/delete any new requests from people to join. It seems like the few recent people who requested joining seemed like sketchy accounts and/or actually spammed advertising or phishing links (which I promptly deleted and kicked them out). If anyone is seriously looking for the StayLDS.com support community and DOESN’T notice the link to the support forums in the group description, and they contact one of us looking for help, we can tell them where to go.
I just changed the setting so that only Admins can post to the group. That pretty much locks out all activity.

GuestHonestly, if it were active, I’d probably rather discuss things on a FB forum than here. There are lots of other active FB groups that also sort of fill this niche. December 24, 2016 at 4:31 pm #316410Anonymous
GuestI’ve thought for a while that it isn’t serving any purpose as it currently is structured. Personally, I have no desire to use it, since this site already has relatively active discussions. I’d rather not have to check and help manage two active sites. I don’t favor a private, closed group, since allowing lurkers to read our threads is an important part of what we do. I also would be concerned about moderating such a group, since Facebook is more of an unmoderated forum in general – and keeping things basically civil and solution-focused is more difficult there.
I like the idea of a page that clearly points people to this site but doesn’t require identifiable names for communication, since that is a major concern for many people.
