Remember the cyber squatting staylds.org? It appears that they neglected to pay the upkeep fee and abandoned the domain. One of our StayLDS members that goes by the name of heavy_laden bought it and repurposed it.

Yes it is.. This website has been on the radar of many Mormon based websites and blogs for years, usually mistyping the URL to the Open Stories Foundation website StayLDS.COM . When I noticed the URL was not renewed, I wanted a chance to put myself out there as another voice. I am not associated with StayLDS.COM or Open Stories Foundation but I am appreciative of what they offer.
The new StayLDS.org does link to our forums.
Thanks for letting us know – including the involvement first with the Community of Christ. I am fine with this if it links to us and doesn’t go directly against our mission. It is FAR better than what used to be there.
My feelings on it ultimately don’t matter.
That’s pretty interesting. It’s better than it used to be. An anti- website using StayLDS was evil.
Does this mean God is blessing our efforts and helping remove the adversary and the evil ways that evil people work against Heavenly Father’s plan??
:shifty: instead of sending seagulls to help protect our crops, he has blinded the minds of evil men so their domain rights slipped away, and thus helped the efforts to spread love to others to help people staying with LDS?We could create a story about it.

I appreciate that he thought to ask us. My personal feeling is that keeping StayLDS.com working is enough of a job for us and I do not want to add to that pile.
I agree. I just don’t want it to be bought again by an anti-Mormon activist. We can’t deal with it, however. It will be what it will be.
Anyone have an idea how much it is? If it was set up to simply forward all traffic to staylds.org to this site it wouldn’t require maintenance outside of the initial setup. nibbler wrote:

Good point, and that would prevent it from falling anti. I think otherwise cost would be the only concern.
The link brings up an error 404 page and every time I try to go to the staylds.org page it sends me to staylds.com. Maybe that’s because there is no .org page right now but there still could be in the future. I do not know what that means since James had said that the domain wouldn’t expire until October. Speaking of cost. We will be having our own fund raiser here soon. I did not have any luck getting any sort of reimbursement from the open stories foundation last year so we will likely be on our own again this year.
I suspect James has already set up a redirect rule. I would expect that to go away once the lease is up on that domain, When it expires it will probably transition to a billboard that advertises the domain. I would be happy to buy the StayLDS.org domain and redirect it here. Let me know–I’m happy to do it. I’m tech capable enough to do a redirect. Maintenance will be none once the redirect is set up. By the way, it appears the re-direct is working. Someone might want to remove the post that says “StayLDS. org not affiliated with this site.” I’m guessing James set up that redirect but I’m also guessing that it will go away in early October when he loses control of that domain. I think we should hold off on removing the staylds(dot)org post until we’re sure we’ve secured the domain.
Roy, do you have James’ contact info? I can’t remember which staylds user he maps to.
