GuestAmelie is rated R, just to clarify – there is nudity. I mean, it’s French, come on. I forgot one more that has an R rating but honestly shouldn’t: A Room with a View. It has male nudity, but in the context of swimming. August 30, 2014 at 10:01 pm #289206Anonymous
GuestI thought the Big Lebowski was better than most PG-13 movies I have seen and any R-rated content didn’t stand out as being any worse than some of the other movies already mentioned. Personally I associate the PG-13 rating mostly with big budget movies like all the ones based on comic books, Men in Black, Sherlock Holmes, the Hunger Games, etc. that they keep cranking out to make money but after a while it seems like the same thing over and over again. Basically it seems like there are more movies overall that are rated R and there is far more variety than there is for PG or PG-13 rated movies. August 31, 2014 at 1:02 am #289207Anonymous
GuestWhy is your emphasis only on R-rated movies? One of my all time favorite movies is “A River Runs Through It”.
It is rated PG. The rating for any movie is not as important as:
1. Does it tell a compelling story?
2. Who are the principle stars?
3. Is it considered a quality production?
There has never been a time in my life where I felt that I need to “grossed out” or shocked for no reason.
There are movies I’ve seen once & thought they had an important message to tell. For example,
Schindler’s List & Saving Private Ryan.

GuestI think this is a funny thread! Traditional Mormons would not ask this question. I’m enjoying the question and the answers! August 31, 2014 at 5:10 am #289209Anonymous
GuestNormally it wouldn’t be asked by traditional Mormons, but yet many traditional Mormons watch them. Mike, A River Runs Through It was a great film. Brad Pitt was great in the movie. August 31, 2014 at 12:11 pm #289210Anonymous
GuestCan anyone recommend a good sports channel to watch on Sundays? My daughter is also looking for a good mid’thigh length skirt to wear to church. Does anyone know a good store, preferably open on Sundays, that has a wide selection of this kind of skirt? [just kidding, I like this thread]. August 31, 2014 at 2:05 pm #289211Anonymous
GuestMy problem with the lower end of the ratings scale is it tends to be aimed at children/families and so not my thing. However there are exceptions. It turned out that Ender’s Game was a much better film with a better understanding of human issues than Elysium – despite featuring kids + less bad language.

GuestDevilsAdvocate wrote:Basically a few F-bombs will earn an automatic R-rating.
Actually, it depends on the context. If the F word is used as an adjective, then there can be 1-2 uses of the word and still get a PG-13. Many more and it gets a R rating. But use the F word as a Verb, and it is an automatic R rating, even if used once. I learned this from a relative that worked in the business.

Guest[ Admin Note]: We won’t be soliciting suggestions for X-rated movies at this site. A comment was edited and a response was deleted for this reason. September 2, 2014 at 10:56 pm #289215Anonymous
GuestYou’ll hear more foul language in the average downtown area than in most of these films. I used to be a laborer – f words everywhere amongst the builders. My first work colleague in another job swore constantly, but he was a good kind guy, a gentleman in fact in every other way. So bad to judge on this sometimes.
Not watching such films won’t protect you from this part of life.

GuestI have another suggestion for a movie. It’s not R its NR. The name is “New York Doll”.
It is the biography of Arthur “Killer” Kane. He was the bass player for the bank “New York Dolls”.
They were one of the 1st punk rock banks & not very successful or very good. (My opinion.)
The band broke up & went their separate ways. Arthur survived drugs & alcohol & converted to the church.
I found it very interesting & inspiring.
This is the trailer:

GuestAmen, Sam. Life tends to be more R-rated than most movies. September 3, 2014 at 12:43 am #289217Anonymous
GuestThanks for the information, Mike. I looked that up on the imdb. It says the movie is PG-13. I’ll have to watch it sometime. -
