GuestI understand, Ann – but Pres. Monson definitely talks of Jesus as much as anyone. That is important to remember and mention to our kids. Often, he talks about Jesus and love and service – and nothing else. April 2, 2017 at 4:41 pm #319814Anonymous
GuestTalk starting with literal godhead, importance of the HG. Not expecting much. Might as well listen to a talk on chakras. April 2, 2017 at 4:45 pm #319815Anonymous

I felt that too. I don’t like the”if joseph was a prophet the rest is true” concept because the opposite then can also be true – if he isn’t then the other things are false. It’s not so black and white or all or nothing.
It’s also a logical fallacy and falls apart under inspection. And doesn’t make a difference in living the gospel.
When spirituality is based primarily on religion being “true” instead of being helpful, it falls apart when the shelf breaks.
Ann, is it important to convince your kid that the church’s focus is on Christ, or is it enough that that is her focus?

GuestPretty sure sticking your foot in the door is against mission rules 😆 April 2, 2017 at 4:46 pm #319817Anonymous
GuestElder Rasband’s missionary experience is another reason I don’t deny or criticize literal beliefs in many ways. Things like that happened to me on my mission, as well, even if only once in some cases. April 2, 2017 at 4:47 pm #319818Anonymous

Really good point.

GuestI have to say I have not heard the Spirit’s influence described as words before. I get that during blessings and have experienced it, but not in other things like promptings. April 2, 2017 at 4:50 pm #319820Anonymous
GuestAside: It’s so weird to eat dinner during morning session. April 2, 2017 at 4:52 pm #319821Anonymous
GuestMy dad used to say that he tried to do every good thing that hit him as something he should do. He said he didn’t care if it was a prompting or not, since he couldn’t be wrong in going good. He didn’t try to make any distinction; he simply acted. April 2, 2017 at 4:52 pm #319822Anonymous

I get it, I think. But I don’t see them as coming directly from God. Or rather, from one paradigm, they are promptings from God. In another paradigm, they are gut instincts or a reflection of what’s important to me.

GuestSo if Elder Rasband was also prompted in the restaurant why didn’t he talk to the family? April 2, 2017 at 4:54 pm #319824Anonymous
GuestI also agree that when we respond to needs we see, we tend to see more needs. April 2, 2017 at 4:55 pm #319825Anonymous

That was my mission presidents answer to the question on knowing if something was a prompting or not.

GuestRasband: Elder, you screwed up back there. You didn’t bother that family trying to enjoy their meal. Elder: But you didn’t either.
What a joke.

I’m not sure they come directly from God either, but I have had experiences where what I said I would not normally have said.
