Guest“Let us sing with one accord.” Did you hear that? THERE IS A CAR SINGING. April 2, 2017 at 4:58 pm #319829Anonymous
GuestDidn’t they used to put the lyrics on the screen for the congregational hymn? I wish they still did that, it made it easier to sing along. April 2, 2017 at 4:58 pm #319830Anonymous
GuestBut exactly one car. Beep, beep. April 2, 2017 at 4:59 pm #319831Anonymous

Rasband: Elder, you screwed up back there. You didn’t bother that family trying to enjoy their meal.Elder: But you didn’t either.
What a joke.
From my point of view they did more good not bothering people enjoying a dinner out. I dislike it even when people I do know come over in restaurants.

Guest[ Admin Note]: Pointing out and discussing the issue is fine. Calling it a joke . . . not so much. There is a fine line between talking about issues and making fun of people. We try not to cross that line here. April 2, 2017 at 5:00 pm #319833Anonymous

They did, like the captioning they used for TSM. Don’t know what’s up with that.

GuestI like the phrasing of committing to do what **God** tells us – and that he stressed verbally the word “us”. April 2, 2017 at 5:04 pm #319836Anonymous

So if Elder Rasband was also prompted in the restaurant why didn’t he talk to the family?
Beat me to it.
With the current talk (unconditional obedience) I’m noticing a theme this conference, like doubts in previous conferences was a reoccurring theme.
Conflict between an important event and a run-of-the mill church meeting? Church is more important isn’t it?
Gotta go to dialysis? Schedule that so you can maximize church calling time to the fullest.
Excited at the prospect of spending time with your friggin’ dad after he’s released from a time consuming calling? Nope. Yoink. Dad called to an even higher time consuming calling. No dad for you.
Those are all well and good for people that want to do that but sharing these stories in these settings on this day in this conference (
) sets expectations.

Guest“Highly favored” reminds me of a joke we make when reading scriptures: we say “highly flavored.” You’d be surprised how often the fact that the Nephites were really tasty comes up in the Book of Mormon. April 2, 2017 at 5:08 pm #319838Anonymous
GuestSome talks are geared toward some people; others work for other people. There is no way whatsoever to only give talks that work for everyone. This isn’t my favorite approach (and, in fact, there is lots I don’t like that much), but there is plenty of truth and goodness in it. That is true of lots of talks, even those we really like.

GuestClayton’s talk is just a lot of doubling down. Not doing anything for me. April 2, 2017 at 5:09 pm #319840Anonymous
GuestHaving a faithful (not meaning loyalty to church) and hopeful mindset can make a huge difference in solving life problems, but it doesn’t solve them on its own. “Fix your mindset” isn’t the most helpful response to asking for advice for an immediate problem. Then again, neither are church leaders a particularly qualified source for help for most issues. God rewarding loyalty to the church …. conflation of church and gospel seems to be a theme today

Call me cynical but I see it as their answer to doubt, the hemorrhaging loss of members, etc. The same thing we probably heard the first time we mentioned a faith crisis – more prayer, more reading the BoM, more church.

That’s fine and well. And if it empowers a few pushy leaders to be pushy, well at least the pushy leader got the talk they needed.
