Uchtdorf is knocking another home run. So many in the church operate on fear and monger fear. He described most mission presidents to a tee with his arbitrary rule comment.

This is a doctrinally rich exposition of theology by Elder Oaks, no matter one’s agreement or disagreement. We don’t get many of those, except from Elders Oaks and Holland.

Agreed. Just basic LDS theology without speculation or human additions.

There must needs be opposition in all things. I am ecstatic that we have in Pres. Uchtdorf (and Elders Holland and Renlund) a wonderful example of opposition to some strong cultural elements.

This is where the Church needs to go.

I think we could substitute guilt for every time he says fear and get the same message.

Fear that we’re unworthy is still fear. It’s still fear mongering.

Who says we’re anti-gay? They just sang about attracting the gays of all the world. 😆

And I don’t think most leaders understand that – and maybe I’m generalizing from my own experience – the first thing to go in a faith crisis is fear. I’m done with it. (Except for the “fear”/awe of God.) So the more they want to transact with the currency of fear, the less I connect.

I have felt so bitter lately. Pres. Uchtdorf’s talk was just what I needed to at least help me feel like there is one leader who understands what is driving so many people away. The fear card is used all of the time in this church and the “random rules” mention made me think he may not be all on board with some of the tactics leaders are using to keep people in. He was so right about all of the anxiety this causes. He understands. Right now it is just good to know that someone does. I’m so grateful that he is willing to be different and speak what he feels to be right.

Watching all the talks was getting to me, so I snuck in a small little blue tooth earbud on put it in where nobody could see that side of my head. I put Pandora on a relaxing station. It helped. But when the silver fox spoke, I decided to give him my attention and I am glad I did.

I would love to have a casual conversation with him. He seems dramatically different than any other of the Q15 by a few standard deviations.

Is the rest of the Church leadership listening to President Uchtdorf? Is this intended to be subversive?

Fear? Talk of war, Satan. Arbitrary rules? Obedience to rules without reasons.

    This is so weird.

I also took his Priesthood session talk as a warning to leaders who may think too much of themselves.

I took it that way too. They’re not as special as some of them think they are.
