This is a great conversation. Well, there are things I would love to see change in the church for the better. So many that I don’t want to name them all. Since I’ve been more active lately, I’ve heard the same thing from my stake presidency and leaders in my ward. One change I would love to see: Reduce General Conference down to two season, maybe three with the priesthood and relief society. I don’t mind watching Conference, but we already have 4 to 5 sessions of General Conference. In my opinion, that’s way too much.

I haven’t heard any rumors about less GC sessions, but it would be a welcome change and could happen. It has happened before – it used to go on for days.

    Good thoughts.

    I would say..

    1. More women sitting up on the stand for better optics

    2. Some kind of regional relief society leadership structure to mirror the 70

    3. Pop up temples – to use meetinghouses as temples where needed

I got by email the following before GC.

    Quote:

    Notice

    Date: October 6, 2018

    To: General Authorities; General Auxiliary Presidencies;

Area Seventies; Stake, Mission, and District

Presidents; Bishops and Branch Presidents; Elders

Quorum Presidencies; Stake and Ward Relief Society Presidencies

From: Priesthood and Family Department (1-801-240-2134)

Subject: Responsibilities of Elders Quorum and Relief Society Presidencies in Member

Missionary and Temple and Family History Work

The bishop holds the keys for the work of salvation in his ward. With his counselors, he oversees

member missionary work and temple and family history work (see Handbook 2: Administering the

Church [2010], 5.1.1, 5.4.1). The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have

approved new policies regarding responsibilities of those serving in elders quorum and Relief

Society presidencies. These adjustments should be implemented no later than January 1, 2019, and

    include the following:

 Under the direction of the bishop, the elders quorum president may be assigned to oversee

member missionary work and temple and family history work in the ward. Generally, the

elders quorum president would delegate these assignments to his counselors.

 When assigned these responsibilities, the elders quorum counselor responsible for member

missionary work will act in the role of ward mission leader or will supervise a ward mission

leader who is a Melchizedek Priesthood holder. Similarly, the other elders quorum counselor

will act as the ward temple and family history leader or will supervise a Melchizedek

Priesthood holder who is called to that responsibility. Whether a bishop calls a ward mission

leader and a ward temple and family history leader or the counselors in the elders quorum

presidency fill those roles is up to the inspired direction of each bishop.

 To facilitate priesthood-directed member missionary work and temple and family history

work, the Relief Society presidency may follow the pattern of the elders quorum, with one

counselor assigned to help with member missionary work and the other counselor assigned

to help with temple and family history work.

 The bishop coordinates all aspects of the work of salvation in the ward council. The ward

council includes the bishopric, ward clerk, executive secretary, and presidents of the elders

quorum, Relief Society, Sunday School, Young Women, Young Men, and Primary.

Counselors in the elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies, the ward mission leader (if

called), and the ward temple and family history leader (if called) may be invited to particular

ward council meetings as circumstances dictate. The ward council normally meets weekly

but may meet less frequently. A ward council meeting typically does not last longer than one

    hour.

It is the organizational changes within the Wards.

    Wow. I like it.

One of the biggest changes, I felt, was when President Uchtdorf said,

    Quote:

    “Solomon was wrong”

He was specifically speaking on when Solomon said, in the first chapter of Ecclesiastes, that all things done under the sun was vanity. He specifically said a prophet, who wrote what we in the LDS Church have for canonized scripture, was wrong. I think this is a wonderful step in the right direction, in opening up rational discussion. He’s definitely given the best talk, IMHO, this conference, and for more than that.

I agree, being able to hear them say “wrong” is good!

Did I miss anything this weekend?

    Changes were:

    1) 2 hour block

    2) WML and temple duties fall under RS and EQ Pres

    Anything else?

12 new temples all over the place in the world. Not much else. I wouldn’t call this a blizzard of changes by any means.
