A fabulous post that clearly identifies one of the key gaps in our lay ministry: lack of pastoral care. Bishops are told they are “judges in Israel,” which is the worst possible approach to take when someone has been victimized. https://bycommonconsent.com/2016/10/28/pastoral-approaches-to-sexual-violence/

I had a big discussion on this yesterday. I was at a funeral and it turned out that three of us (including the deceased) had suffered sexual abuse as children. I hadn’t personally but I was physically and emotionally abused by teaching staff, and heard stories of sexual abuse at schools I was at. In the case of the deceased, I wonder if he was how he was due to this abuse. He was a bit ill at ease with life and carried about a sadness with him.

Since writing that post I found out someone who was at school with me is getting some of my teachers investigated.
