When I was serving in a Stake Mission Presidency many years ago, I had as close to a vision as it gets for me. (I don’t get classic visions, ever.) I had a flashing insight of a time when areas with large LDS congregations would lose all traditional, single, full-time missionaries – when all of those missionaries would be sent to areas where high growth was possible. (like India and China, for example) In the LDS-populated areas, leaders and members would be responsible for missionary work.
Fairly soon after that insight, stake missions were abolished, and the ward mission structure was created. We aren’t yet where I felt we were going, but I still can see the future need to send missionaries en masse to other places and remove them from areas with large LDS congregations.
[Admin Note]: Let’s get back to the focus of the post, please. I am considering copying the mission-related comments and moving them into a new thread. I would prefer the original posters do that, but I can do it, if necessary.
