GuestSince I don’t meet with the SP every week, I wonder: Who might cwald mean?
I have to look something up in CHI 1 anyway, so I’ll try to remember to look when I borrow my Bishop’s copy to check on the other question.

GuestCanada- Sorry to hear he did that to you. That was wrong. Unfortunately, there are people that think that things should be handled the way they see fit and this is what happens.

Maybe next time you could explain your answers “Yes, that means affirmative”

GuestRay, Thank you!!! Your response really helped me to put any worry to rest. I’ve tried to see it from the SP point of view. I don’t think that the thought has ever crossed his mind that the questions might be interpreted differently from what he stated. His experience as a bishop and now SP probably hasn’t included helping those with a crisis of faith. I’m sure he’s only dealt with LOC, WOW or marital stuff. His brain just doesn’t go there and while it isn’t mandated for him to expound on the questions he really doesn’t see any harm in doing so. I get it. I don’t think I should be the one to inform him either though maybe at one point I may feel compelled to do so. I didn’t yesterday that is for sure.
Thanks to all who were so supportive. It was a tough situation and I’m so glad its over with. This whole week has been full of strife regarding the church and I’m determined to not react negatively to situations for awhile anyway. Thanks again for all the help. Hopefully someday I’ll have enough experience with this stuff to help others.

Guestcanadiangirl Thank you so much for your post! It helps me to more fully realize what to prepare for spiritually and mentally when my turn come up for the TM interviews. Does this site have a “like” button such as the one on FB? I would have been pushing it on all of the above comments. Thank you all!

GuestI’ve never heard the pornography or M-word question either — and I was never instructed to ask it either. January 24, 2011 at 12:26 am #237974Anonymous
GuestPornography and masturbation have both come up in Temple Recommend interviews I have had. I think leaders see it as a way of clarifying/making sure about the Law of Chastity. The official line is that the questions are the questions right, and nothing should be added or taken away?

It’s very serious to add anything to the TR questions.
Quote:For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this temple recommend forms booklet, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the questions on the forms booklet of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this booklet.

Guest😯 I think you should write a letter to the First Presidency. When a SP makes such a gross error they need to be corrected. The only way things will change in the church is if we speak up. I would seriously consider writing a letter to the FP.

GuestIf you do take Stealthbishop’s advice, and write to someone, then do it with the attitude that you won’t get a satisfactory answer back. Don’t expect it — consider your letter another drop in the bucket….My wife and I wrote over a letter once and got back form letters and platitudinal answers that only frustrated us. Further, the head honchos keep sending out memos telling the membership not to write letters to the people above, so you don’t know how the letter will be perceived; better to take the Saturday Night Live approach to happiness and approach the situation with low expectations. Personally, I would write to the person directly above the Stake President, whoever that might be (Church organization gets fuzzy to me at that level), and then write to the FP as you indicated.
You will also have to judge whether you want to withstand the impact of the Stake knowing yoru identify in your “complaint”. An anonymous letter might work, but they tend to have less impact than a letter in which you disclose your identity.

GuestThanks Stealthbishop for validated my feelings. I don’t want to write a letter. I feel fine just knowing there are others out there that understand why the interview made me uncomfortable. I also feel good about the way I handled it. I know the man who is above the SP in our area. My husband works with him and he is a very good man. If I spoke to him (Or wrote a letter) I would have to explain why what the SP did bothered me. Most TBM’s wouldn’t think twice about it so I would have to make my position known. I’m not sure what the consequences of doing that would entail so for now I’ll just keep moving forward.
Just hearing from all of you is enough for me. Thanks again.

Oh, I’m not so sure. I’m sure there are many believers in the one true priesthood who are aware and alert to abuses when they happen. D&C 121 gives good reason.
