Guestmomto11–Thanks for commenting on my post. I like what you said about choosing to believe, and how that is more important. I feel like that is where I am at with a lot of things in the church. I definitely think it is enough for us to believe, isn’t that one of the gifts of the spirit? Some days I have an easier time believing than others though! Even though the stake counselor told me to answer yes or no, I think I tend to do that anyway since I usually don’t know who is interviewing me very well (I’ve moved around a lot) so I don’t want to come across as a doubter or raise any attention on me from the bishopric. I can see how if you know the leader well, it could be good to be more forthcoming. I just wanted to show that a person doesn’t have to explain themselves if they don’t want to.
I also agree with you that there are times you can’t go as often to the temple, for many different reasons. I have had some unpleasant experiences at the temple before, and so for me it is an act of faith every time I decide to go, since unlike for some, the temple isn’t necessarily a wonderful place for me. I plan to do an initiatory soon too, to get me back into going more. I’ll see how that goes. I have always enjoyed being at the temple for weddings though, so I will enjoy that day with my niece at least.

Guestjourneygirl—I have heard of people that had a very difficult time the first time they went to the temple. One of them I know got over it and had no more problems, the other never got over it. I had married young and out of the church, originally, and then divorced—-so when my hubby and I were preparing to go to the temple, my mother several times told me, “It’s different.” I thought it was wonderful! I think that because I had made so many stupid mistakes, that I was just so glad to be there that “different” didn’t bother me.
Since you have had some unpleasant experiences that make it harder for you to go to the temple—-it sounds so neat to hear you say it is an act of faith every time you decide to go. Isn’t that what so much of our life is about, living by faith? I admire you for being able to ACT on that faith when it is not easy.
I have been married 25 years, and I have only once gone back and done initiatory work. I just remember thinking it was so neat to hear what they said, because I didn’t remember. I think it was a little over 18 years ago!! I really need to go and listen to those words again that are said during the initiatory work.

GuestThanks journeygirl and momto11, I have mine coming up soon (actually it’s past due) so need to consider the questions. Some of the threads that wayfarer started a while ago have been useful. -
