GuestAs part of the new endowment changes, the robe and ceremonial clothing now are donned only once – in conjunction with the Melchizedek Priesthood. They are not donned earlier and changed. This is my own conjecture, but I like that change for a deeper reason than just the previous inconvenience of changing them. I like eliminating their application to the Aaronic Priesthood for a very simple reason: females are not ordained into the Aaronic Priesthood. I love the idea that women are endowed with the “higher” Priesthood without having to go through the “lesser Priesthood” – and it would be cool if a future change mirrors that outside the temple by allowing adult men to be ordained Elders without having to be Priests first. There is nothing of which I am aware scripturally that requires that tradition, so I hope the endowment change is a precursor to the broader change I just described.
It also makes it even clearer to me that endowed women are prepared to officiate in the Melchizedek Priesthood – and I hope that clarity changes things outside the temple in the not-far-distant future.

GuestI obviously haven’t been, nor will I go in the future, so I rely on others. But I’m wondering if the head-gear is now gone. If the women no longer veil their faces, there wouldn’t be much point to wearing a veil. And, well, there wasn’t much point to the hat for men before, anyway. GuestI doubt it, since I haven’t heard it mentioned. Not taking off the slippers was mentioned, so I am sure an actual change to the apparel would have been mentioned. January 6, 2019 at 5:42 pm #333657Anonymous
GuestI am of two minds on the subject. 1) That sounds great Curt. This could be a precursor to a doctrinal change.
2) Is the presentation of the endowment ceremony doctrine? The FP message on this matter seemed to indicate that none of the changes affected doctrine and that the endowment was open to continual revision. I suppose I have been getting used to the idea of the endowment as a vehicle to bring people closer to Christ (but not necessarily the only vehicle).
The trend seems to have been changing the endowment long after outside Mormonism has moved on rather than changing outside teachings to better coincide with the temple. Although, if the change happened in regards to female ordination I could see this temple practice and Elder Oak’s talk cited as precursors.

GuestThe robe could easily be simplified into some kind of sash. -
