FWIW, I do think they meant it exactly the way they said/wrote the 14 Fundamentals. Like others already said so well, many do believe this is the best way to run the Church and also run their life. It works for them. So when I interpret it differently for my own use, I am not trying to say they meant what I believe and just said it funny. To me though, it’s OK to see it different. Everything in life is like that to me. I have to take what I have around me and adapt it to work in my life.

I can’t do the blind obedience thing (also, not trying to be insulting, is what it is, whatever works for people…). I just can’t. That’s not my nature. It’s not how I tick, or how I was made. I’m the guy that has to question everything. It’s tiring. It’s not easy, but that’s the purpose to which I was created. God needs a mix of people around to keep things balanced.

cwald, I think all they can do are two things, basically:

    1) Not claim visits when they don’t happen – and I think they are doing that in spades. In fact, there are some critics who complain that they aren’t true prophets unless they say that, but they still don’t.

    2) Claim visits don’t happen – and I’m not sure they don’t.

So, in regards to that one issue, I really do think they are doing about as much as they can – especially since I have heard two of the currently living and recently deceased apostles talk very openly about how they receive revelation / inspiration, and visits were the furthest thing possible from those descriptions.

I also agree it’s time to move to #2, so I will close this thread and open a new one on that topic.
