GuestIt’s not exactly what it says, but I don’t think most members would argue against Ray’s statement. Similar to what Tom was saying — any one of us are not limited to the reasoning of man when we follow the spirit. I think most members would agree with that.
I think the message “don’t be limited to the current thoughts, ideas, or inspiration of others” is a good one. The Wright brothers were not.
To me it does not negate the teaching that I need to receive my own confirmation of what words come from the Lord.

GuestThat’s why it’s called “re-wording” it, SD.
I like to take things and see how I would say them to make them make sense and be meaningful to me. If someone says something in a church meeting with which I disagree, for example, I like to pull my mind away and figure out how I would say it if I were speaking to a group. It keeps me from getting upset, and it also has been the genesis of a few talks in my life – as new thoughts came to me and a way to explain them became a little clearer.

I agree with Tom’s comments, and I feel I’m not limited to my own reasoning, but I sure rely on it most of the time as well, including how to make sense of the 14 Fundamentals.

GuestIronic that the topic of our SM last week was this (horrid) talk and now I see it is a very active topic of my new favorite forum  Anyway, the president of our church is just a man who holds the priesthood who received a calling. He’s as much a man and human as any other man who has ever lived and I don’t see why he wouldn’t have the same limitations any of us do. The prophet is no different than a bishop, other than he has a bigger ward to pray for. We all know that bishops are well meaning but often way off base due to the frailties of the human mind, so it only makes sense that can happen at the Stake, Region and even entire church level. People run the church – People. I refuse to believe that Pres. Monson got a new brain when he became prophet, so therefore he has the same mental capacity he had immediately prior.

GuestHaha. It doesn’t say a prophet is always right, just they can’t be constrained by good reasoning. 😆 I guess prophets are too free for that…I sort of agree, like Tom, on the personal level of accessing intuition and the collective consciousness (mystical approach).
