I believe they are myths, like much of the bible characters. I find value in myths.Cue Joseph Campbell:
Quote:Mythology is not a lie, mythology is poetry, it is metaphorical. It has been well said that mythology is the penultimate truth–penultimate because the ultimate cannot be put into words. It is beyond words. Beyond images, beyond that bounding rim of the Buddhist Wheel of Becoming. Mythology pitches the mind beyond that rim, to what can be known but not told.

Unlike bigfoot (Cain) there actually exists several very clear photos of at least one of the three Nephites. Here he is in his uniform of the priesthood:

Not be be insensitive to Eternity4me’s story.
 If you’ve got some three Nephite stories I’d love to hear them.December 4, 2014 at 7:15 am #292253Anonymous

Ditto. There are a lot of unexplained things in the world. Enough to keep me wondering.December 5, 2014 at 2:41 am #292254Anonymous

This was from a W&T poll in 2013. I was pretty surprised that that many of our readers believed it!
http://www.wheatandtares.org/13442/unexpected-insights-from-2013-weekend-polls/ My parents swear they met John the Revelator in California in the 1960s. They also think their neighbors killed JFK, so take it for what it’s worth.

GuestThe three Nephites are real! My home teacher years ago told our family how they rescued him from a flooded car not far from our home. December 6, 2014 at 12:31 am #292256Anonymous
GuestThanks for the referring me to your post, hawkgirl. It was fantastic. I love your blogs. Challenges others to think and take action for women’s equality and liberation. Hahah. Nibbler, you have such a great sense of humor. I loved that show The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno growing up. I still watch it online from time to time. π December 6, 2014 at 4:43 pm #292257Anonymous
GuestIt seems to me that the Book of Mormon itself leaves this question unanswered: Quote:Mormon 8:10
And there are none that do know the true God save it be the disciples of Jesus, who did tarry in the land until the wickedness of the people was so great that the Lord would not suffer them to remain with the people;
and whether they be upon the face of the land no man knoweth.

GuestWell, if anyone thinks the Three Nephites and John the Revelator are myths, then they obviously don’t believe the scriptures or the accounts of latter-day apostles and others who have encountered the Three Nephites. December 14, 2014 at 7:46 pm #292259Anonymous

You are absolutely right, Mike. I believe the scriptures in this instance are not correctly interpreted and much more figurative than literal and I wholly doubt the accounts of those who have seen them. I always think of Paul H. Dunn’s story and I’m pretty sure most or all of these accounts are quite similar to that. So from a certain point of view I obviously don’t believe the scriptures of the accounts of apostles and others who have encountered them.

I believe they are myths, just like I believe the scriptures describing giants…
Quote:Numbers 13: 33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
…just like I believe the myth that you can boil a frog by slowly turning up the heat instead of dropping him in boiling water.
Lots of teachings are meaningful, even if based on myths or exaggerated stories to make a point.

GuestI do know they like to change flat tires, deliver cryptic messages, apply band aids and such. Sort of like AAA and the paramedics. December 23, 2014 at 9:45 pm #292262Anonymous

Makes you wonder if they’re thinking:Quote:When Christ asked me what I truly desired in my heart…um….this wasn’t really it.
