Enjoy the true story of a Mormon soldier who turned from the horrors of war to treats to delight children. CBS made this video:

It’s a great story of one man making a major difference in the lives of thousands of children and helping lift the nation of Germany from the bitterness of defeat. IMO, it’s an example of religion done right.

    Thanks, dash.

That’s one example of why I don’t stress as much as some over issues of doctrine, as much as I love pondering issues of doctrine. To paraphrase what Pope Francis said recently (and what I believe Pres. Uchtdorf has been preaching for some time), if we become slaves to doctrine to the exclusion of people, we’ve failed as Christians.

Last year The Tabernacle Choir Christmas Special was dedicated to The Candy Bomber. I don’t usually watch them, but my sister sent it to me. Here’s a clip

I was just shocked to see that Amazon is selling the book for $122. Am I doing something wrong? Barnes and Noble near us is out of stock. Wow. I’m glad if it sold well; couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Beautiful story. It reminds me a little of the one L. Tom Perry tells about his time in the service rebuilding in post-war Japan. I think about it often when I am getting negative about the church. It leads to more respect for the ground that “grew” these boys/men. Far away from home and with ample opportunity to do mischief, they did good instead.
