I have mentioned before that I am subscribed to the Daily Gems from the church (an email mailer). Sometimes I think the messages are simply fantastic. This is one of them from my favorite talk of the last GC.

M. Russell Ballard wrote:

There is no other relationship quite like that which can and should exist between a boy and his dad. It can be one of the most nurturing, joyful relationships in life, one that can have a profound impact on who boys become and also on who dads become. Now, I understand that some of you young men do not have fathers with whom you can have these kinds of conversations. And some of you men do not have sons or have lost your sons to accident or illness. But . . . uncles and grandfathers and priesthood leaders and other mentors . . . sometimes fill the gaps for these significant father-son relationships.

To me, quotes like this are the essence of what religion should do in my life – increase spirituality and focus on human interactions. I simply love when our leaders focus on these things – it’s one of the reasons I stay LDS!!

Thanks, Eu. Great quote.

That makes me want to be a better dad. I also get equal joy in watching my wife cuddle our son and they talk and giggle and I know how much the kids trust their mom.

That is pure religion – love, families and relationships, spiritual health, and joy.
