It’s not clear at all to me right now.

Right after He defines His doctrine in 3 Nephi 11, Jesus preaches the Sermon on the Mount: “…blessed are the poor in spirit who come unto me…whosoever is angry with his brother shall be in danger of his judgment…whosoever looketh on a woman, to lust after her, hath committed adultery already in his heart…love your enemies…do alms unto the poor…all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them… Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven,” etc.

It says in 3 Nephi 23: 14 that “when Jesus had expounded all the scriptures in one, which they had written, he commanded them that they should teach the things which he had expounded unto them.”

    So here are some questions:

How much emphasis should be given to other teachings of Christ?

Of what do we need to repent? What are we to be doing as we endure to the end? How do we know these things?

How can we view His commandment to teach “all the scriptures”?

Shawn, again, there is a difference between “the Gospel of Christ” and “the doctrines (teachings) of Christ”.

Having said that, it’s interesting how many of the doctrines of Christ are nothing more than practical examples of what it means to have faith and repent.

I don’t see much of a difference between “my doctrine” and “my gospel.” In 3 Nephi 27, Jesus said:

    Quote:

13 Behold I have given unto you my gospel, and this is the gospel which I have given unto you—that I came into the world to do the will of my Father, because my Father sent me.

14 And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me, to be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil—

15 And for this cause have I been lifted up; therefore, according to the power of the Father I will draw all men unto me, that they may be judged according to their works.

16 And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world.

I’m really not trying to argue. I’m trying to understand more. I think there are the “doctrine of Christ” and the “gospel of Christ” and they are very similar (if not the same), and then there are other teachings of His that support the doctrine and gospel. That’s why I asked those questions. I suppose I should answer them myself, according to how I understand it now.

How much emphasis should be given to other teachings of Christ?

As much emphasis is needed for me to live the doctrine/gospel of Christ.

Of what do we need to repent? What are we to be doing as we endure to the end? How do we know these things?

I need to repent of anything that is not in accordance with the teachings of Christ. As I endure to the end, I am to follow the teachings of Christ and repent continually. I can know these things by studying the teachings of Christ and following the Holy Ghost.

How can we view His commandment to teach “all the scriptures”?

Teach and learn about the scriptures insofar as they support the doctrine/gospel of Christ and help me follow Him.

Well, I guess that’s that for me 🙂
