While I was sitting home with sick kids today, I watched this video. Portions of it were so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes.

I realized I should describe what I’m linking to. It’s a TED talk by Lesley Hazleton about her research on Muhammed. She talks about how he reacted to his first vision/revelation—with doubt and fear, rather than righteous conviction.

    Very thought provoking.

    Quote:

“Abolish all doubt and what’s left is not faith, but absolute heartless conviction. You are certain you possess The Truth (inevitably offered with an implied uppercase “T”) and this certainty quickly devolves into dogmatism and righteousness…by which I mean a demonstrative overweening pride in being so VERY right. In short, the arrogance of fundamentalism.” Lesley Hazleton
