GuestI recently read the book “Who Killed Homer” which is about the demise of the study of western classics at the University. It got me super interested in Greek history and books so I ordered a few off Amazon. Any else interested in reading and setting up a little discussion group on The Iliad? I’ll give it a few days, if no responses I will venture out on my own .

GuestI have studied both Latin and Greek. Long time since I read the Iliad but it is on my new Kindle. Have you read the Kalevala or Edda?

GuestI would normally jump at this, but life leaves me little time for reading these days. If there were a free audiobook, maybe. I read the Iliad in college and loved it, but I don’t remember a lot of it. I’ve been wanting to read the Kalevala for a long time, too. It was the inspiration for some of Tolkien’s mythology.

GuestI got rid of my TV years ago. Amazing how much I get to read without it. August 6, 2014 at 12:26 pm #288736Anonymous

I haven’t quite got there yet.
Also, meant to clarify, the Odyssey is the only book related to Greek culture, history, and thought that I have read other than Who Killed Homer

GuestI haven’t had a TV for several years and didn’t watch it much before that. I have always preferred to read. It’s commuting and kids that take up my time these days. I would recommend reading Plato. His Socratic dialogues are surprisingly readable.
