Fwiw, there is no direction to bishops to get explicit in the interviews. As usual, the major problems occur when individual Bishops go beyond the scope of what is outlined in the CHI.

I’m not saying there isn’t a real problem, and I’m not saying I have no problems with youth interviews. I’m just saying the major problems are caused by individuals thinking they need to go farther than they should be going in their discussions.

    A case in point:

I know of a sister who was excommunicated for some serious sexual sins. She understood and accepted the decision and worked hard to be reinstated. She eventually was re-baptized and currently is serving faithfully, despite MANY obstacles. In her case, she was never asked for specifics regarding her sins – other than the basics to establish that she had, in fact, been involved in things that mandated excommunication. It was a wonderful experience overall for her specifically because it was handled correctly by a Bishop who understood he didn’t have to get explicit to fulfill his role.

I wish all understood that, and I wish there was better comprehensive training for all – and all I can say in the end is that it isn’t supposed to be how it too often is. Life sucks that way – and I don’t mean to be flippant at all in saying that.
