GuestThank you Cwald. It is nice to have people who understand what you are saying in your life! May 8, 2012 at 5:21 pm #251559Anonymous
GuestWell, one of my friends is inactive (I baptized him!), but I suggested he come to the LDS Employment Resource Center here. He got made redundant recently. Anyway, he was very pleased with it, and I think it was a more positive experience for him than a bunch of people knocking on his door and badgering him. bridget_night wrote:I wonder if TBM’s really know what to do with ‘members’ like us who have alot of questions about the church.
Part of the problem is that some of them have already decided why people have left without asking, let alone listening to them. If the church did, it would find out things it didn’t want to
Incidentally, I believe polygamy, BoA papyri etc are a minor factor in disenchantment round here. Boring services and being snowed under in a calling are bigger factors.

Agree with what you’ve said, BN. Online forums help find other like-minded and friendly people.I’m dealing with this in my life now too, and try to remind myself that it took me several years and lots of searching to open up to my ideas and views I have now. It is virtually impossible in church classes or a few conversations with a new bishop to have them understand me. It reminds me of how my son comes and talks to me about all the things he was able to accomplish in his World of Warcraft online computer game…and I understand he’s speaking English to me, but I’m not really understanding why it seems so important to him…I don’t really get it.
I find many people who haven’t gone down the path that I have don’t really get me. I don’t think that makes me more advanced…just have to remember how to phrase ideas in TBM-speak, as a courteous gesture for where they are at.
It doesn’t always work, so I understand your frustration, but I try to remind myself how I must sound from their perspective.

GuestThat World of Warcraft analogy is perfect, Heber. It’s probably going to end up in a talk I give at some point. May 9, 2012 at 3:56 pm #251562Anonymous
GuestWorld of Warcraft is getting some bad press just now – http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/04/16/anders-breivik-played-wor_n_1427706.html May 21, 2012 at 6:08 pm #251563Anonymous
GuestI am sure there are serial killers who watched sports on TV. Most mass murderers in modern times have eaten a hamburger. Criminals have shopped at Wal-Mart. These are obviously additional triggers for extreme violence. I am starting to see the pattern… -
