Good example. I’ve got to say that I’ve never quite figured out how a picture of Buddha might be a graven image while a picture of Jesus isn’t.

I guess the emphasis should be on “…before Me” if that’s going to be applied at all by someone.

    Quote:

    grav·en im·age

    Noun

A carved idol or representation of a god used as an object of worship.

    Synonyms

    idol

So unless it’s an image used as an object of worship there’s nothing for the TBM to complain about.

To stop my friend’s head exploding I stopped short of saying that during a weekend stay at a Buddhist temple in the mountains in China I knelt in front of a Buddha statue and prayed with the small group of Buddhist as a mark of respect and community. Even then, I didn’t worship or pray to Buddha, but took it as a chance to pray to the God of my understanding and while doing so expressed thanks for His love for all of humanity including the people around me. It was among the most uplifting experiences I’ve had. As I stood up the person I was with said “Buddha is smiling. He liked your prayer.” If God is anything like I think he is, I think my friend was more right than he realised.

Hahahahah – I believe the same. If God (or Jesus) visited a remote people in Jerusalem and in the new world (Nephites and such) then why in the world would he not visit other remote people? They may call him something else, such as Buddha. Therefore, his gospel is still being taught to those people…… Hummm…..
