My youngest submitted his “papers” Aug. 1 (sent in by the SP), letter dated Aug. 8 arrived yesterday. He was hoping to go somewhere “exotic” but didn’t want a different language. Tender mercies such as they are, he was called to Vanuatu, English speaking. He leaves end of November about 3 weeks after his brother returns from Brazil.

    Cool.

I had to google what a Vanuatu was.

Sounds like your son won the mission lotto. His call matched up with his desires.

I agree he hit the lotto. He’s also going to the NZ MTC and his president, who will finish in July next year, served in the same mission as I did. I don’t remember him, it’s possible judging by his age that he might have been just finishing up when I got there.

I only knew the approximate location of Vanuatu because there was a season of Survivor there.

The mission includes the island nations of Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and New Caledonia and some transfers are by plane. I don’t think he’ll actually see much of New Caledonia because is is French speaking and they do have French speaking missionaries in the mission. It is a no suit coat, sandals (and/or Crocs) allowed mission.

That is totally hitting the mission lotto…what a great experience. You know it must be a beautiful place when one of the islands is called “White Sands”.

    He must be stoked.
