In the interest of full disclosure I am not about to refer all of my friends to this because I think they need to be converted. I may share it with some people because I think it’s nice and because I think they might like it. It could be more detailed and perhaps include more video. I also like the “Because He Lives” video but honestly liked last year’s “Because of Him” more. Anyway, for what it’s worth, here’s this year’s Easter campaign: http://www.mormon.org/easter” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.mormon.org/easter

As a side note, I am speaking this Sunday and since GC is on Easter we are doing an Easter program in our ward. The topic I chose (I was given some leeway – anything Easter related) happens to be the week of Easter with an emphasis on the hope. I’m glad my ward is doing this because I think we often short shrift Easter and often place too much emphasis on the atonement (which is important) at the expense of what most Christians recognize as the real miracle of Easter – the resurrection. I also expect that while a few may mention Easter in GC and a couple might actually give an Easter related talk, it will go mostly unnoticed. So, I’m also glad the church has made some acknowledgement over the past couple years that Easter is a big deal and has actually given at least a week-long opportunity to think about it. On the other hand, I wonder how many of our more orthodox friends even know about this (other than those involved in missionary efforts).

I loved last years Easter week from the church. I too was disappointed that it isn’t more broadly publicized. In our local area we have a walk through event at one of the local buildings called “The Living Christ.” It’s art and works on Christ, tastefully displayed through the cultural hall.

Easter Sunday though will be another miss in my ward. GC is on Easter, so it will get a nod or two, but this week is Ward Conference. Yippeee.

I was sitting next to a less active sister this past Sunday, she had a dosey of a visit, the new RS Pres. who is her next door neighbor introduced her as a visitor, but forgot her name, then announced they were neighbors. It was a little rough. Anyway, this sister and I were chit chatting through the announcements when it was announced that yes 2 conferences back to back – Ward and General. She shook her head, looked at me and said, “Is that for real?” I shrugged a “Yes”. I noticed she left the minute we said Amen.

So yeah my ward is 100% skipping an Easter Service. Always love this.

DJ – Give ’em your best. You maybe the only Easter they get.

Actually I think our ward is going pretty much all out, Mom. The other two speakers also have an Easter topic, I’m in the middle and the bishop is last. And there are three musical numbers, Primary, a quartet, and something I don’t remember. I do plan to note it is Palm Sunday.

Well, I wouldn’t want to break any rules. I am willing to post the text here, though.

Well – How was Easter? Details, transcripts, notes would be wonderful. We went over the ward goals – for 3 meetings today. I think I know what they are now. Please give me some Easter.

I am speaking on the 12th. It will be on the meaning of Easter – for Christ’s kingdom of nobodies.

Fast meeting. No Easter hymns, and one mention of Easter in a testimony. And that’ll be it.

F&T meeting here. No Easter. And they wonder why people don’t think we are Christian?? Not even an Easter hymn. But I did laugh out loud when the opening prayer giver thanked God profusely for the abundant sunshine, and mentioned a few sentences later that we are fasting for rain. I guess I have to look somewhere for my humor in church.

I did post my talk in the talk thread. Our ward did well, better than I remember most Easters (keeping in mind of course I haven’t been to an LDS Easter service in 10 years). Anyway, we did hymn 197 as opening, 173 as sacrament, Primary sang a song, a sister spoke about Easter (with several references to 1 COR 13), a quartet of 2 couples sang hymn 198, the choir sang hymn 199, I gave the best holy week talk ever, the bishop spoke about Easter’s significance, and we closed with hymn 200. I skipped SS to visit with an old friend who was visiting, combined PH/RS was about using social media as a missionary tool (it was quite a snoozer).

I have to admit that I have the best ward. If you are going to have a faith crisis, this is the ward to be in. They just don’t get shocked! I ended up bearing my testimony, which was shocking even for me. I tried to stay pretty under the radar, but a couple of people came up to me afterwards and gave me a hug or handshake saying that they understood. The whole testimony meeting was about the savior and Easter and about wondering if their testimonies are strong enough to withstand all the stuff against JS. It was amazing. We sang all Easter hymns and both SS and RS were on christ. I was pretty impressed.

DJ, I would love to read your talk! You should post it, if your comfortable with that of course.

I admit I haven’t even checked out the Easter campaign yet. I am still holding out hope that GC will be on the meaning of Easter, for my kids sake at least. I just don’t want to hear about traditional families all conference. Sometimes the women’s conference can be a hint of what is to come. UGH
