GuestI have been a lurker for a few weeks now and decided I wanted to be able to join in the discussions. Thought I should give an intro to who I am. I am a member of the LDS church. I have been married for three and half years and we have a daughter who is now five months old. I was born and raised LDS in a rather “traditional” LDS home. Both parents come from LDS backgrounds, though my mom is only a second generation member. I have always had a rather non-traditional take on many things LDS and more often than not find that I am more tolerant and supportive of many things that the typical member is not.
My husband is a some-what active convert to the church. We were married in 2006, not in the temple. Our goal has always been to get there eventually. At the time we met and married he was completely in-active (but someday wanting a temple marriage) and I was mostly inactive (but someday wanting a temple marriage). As time has progressed I have become fully active again and my husband has become partially active (but of his own free will, I push nothing church on him). I am feeling more and more that I want to go to the temple but there are a lot of questions that I am seeking for answers before I actually take the dive and go to the temple. Soo I joined this site in hope of finding some of my answers as well as finding a way to believe and practice my belief in a way that seems more in-tune to how my spirit wants to.
I believe strongly in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ but I am not so sure about everything in the church. I know the church can do MUCH good and has done much good, but I feel that more and more people who claim to be “active” members are more like “complacent” members. They aren’t paying enough attention to see that they aren’t really living the gospel as I believe God intended us to. I think too often anymore people who are “active” are functioning in auto-pilot and not really fullfilling the purpose of the gospel.
The purpose of my journey is to be truly intune to the spirit and what I feel and need in my life. Not just going through the motions and putting on a good front. I am extremly non-judgemental and really believe that there is good in many religions and organization outside of the gospel. I also feel that quite often those that are out of the church are more intune to God than those who go every week to church.
I am looking forward to what I will learn and the knowledge I will gain from coming to this site.

GuestWelcome to the site! I agree about complacency. There is a big difference between being in a religion and being spiritual. January 27, 2010 at 10:25 pm #227174Anonymous
GuestWelcome Itsmee…I think most here would agree that we all have “answers,” even though they may differ. I think that is what makes this a great place to hang out. At the very least, we will give you fodder for thought!

GuestWelcome and thanks for the intro. I sure hope you find some answers to the things you’re thinking about. I think many people have a wide range of thoughts and experiences on the temple, from loving it and saying it is like heaven on earth to hating it and never wanting to go.
I really think it is very personal, just like all spirituality and your relationship to God. I’d advise you to remember that and take others’ opinions and advice (especially mine) with a grain of salt as you think about your journey to the temple and what it means to you, your husband and your family.
Welcome!

GuestThank you all for the warm welcome. I am so grateful for this wonderful site, and for all that I have learned already. You are all so brilliant that you may have to be patient with me, because it seems as if most of you are in “calculus” and I am in “pre-algebra” 😆 January 29, 2010 at 4:22 pm #227178Anonymous
GuestDon’t sell yourself short, I thought this part of your intro was brilliant:
Quote:I am extremly non-judgemental and really believe that there is good in many religions and organization outside of the gospel. I also feel that quite often those that are out of the church are more intune to God than those who go every week to church.
I think you’ll fit in just fine! There are no pre-requisites for this forum…we’re all just here to share our thoughts! Looking forward to hearing yours.

GuestWelcome! Please don’t feel overwhelmed or intimidated here. You are on your own personal journey now. We absolutely can learn as much from your experiences as you might learn from us rambling about ours. Seeing that over and over again gives me great hope. It’s truly a beautiful life with so many people expressing it. March 6, 2010 at 7:29 pm #227180Anonymous
